세그먼트 트윈즈는 스토브 인디 PV에서 처음 봤던 게임입니다. 영상을 보면서 제 스타일의 게임처럼 느껴져서 구매를 결심하게 되었죠.
게임을 해보면서 시스템 디자인만 봤을 때에는 칭찬을 많이 해주고 싶은 게임입니다.
공격키만 열심히 누르기만 해도 자동 타겟이 되면서 콤보가 이어지고, 스테이지가 클리어되는 마법이 펼쳐집니다.
마치 이짤 처럼 말이죠.
물론 컨트롤에 적응하면 스킬의 타이밍과 공격의 타이밍을 잘 알기 때문에 자신이 생각하던 공격 스타일을 펼칠 수 있습니다.
또한 3개의 스킬은 적을 처치하면서 레벨업을 했을 때 해금이 됩니다.
템포가 빠른 게임이어서 금방 레벨업을 하고, 적에게 피격을 받으면 레벨다운이 되긴 하지만 어떻게든간에 적을 처치하면 다시 원상 복구를 빠르게 할 수 있습니다. 그만큼 전투 시스템을 잘 고민한 흔적이 보였습니다.
뿐만아니라 캐릭터가 공격을 성공할 때마다 게이지가 채워지는데 가득차면 일정 시간 동안 스킬이 강화되어 적을 쉽게 처치할 수 있습니다.
캐릭터별로 3개씩 총 6개의 스킬을 가지고 있지만 커맨드에 따라서도 다양한 액션이 가능합니다.
그래서 이 모든 것들이 게임에 자연스럽게 느껴졌었고, 단점보다는 장점이 더욱 돋보이는 것 같았습니다.
중간에 스테이지로 미니게임을 넣어놨는데 게임 디자인적으로 봤을 때는 일관적이지 않을 수도 있고, 왜 미니게임을 해야하는가에 대한 의문이 들 수도 있겠지만 쉬어가는 스테이지라는 느낌으로 개발하신 것 같습니다.
피격을 당해도 체력이 닳지 않기 때문에 보너스의 의미로 둔 것이 인상 깊었습니다.
아쉬운 점이라고 해야할까요?
스테이지를 거듭할수록 다양한 기믹이 등장하는데 반복되는 플레이로 해결이 가능해서 기믹의 다양성이 돋보이지 않았습니다.
또한 타격감도 어느정도 극대화 했으면 좋겠다는 생각이 들었습니다.
예를 들면 적이 특수 공격을 준비하는 모션을 진행할 때, 공격을 했다면 게임 속도가 살짝 느려져서 크리티컬한 대미지가 터졌다는 연출과 함께 큰 대미지를 주는 요소가 있었으면 좋겠습니다.
현재는 스킬 강화를 통해서 컨트롤과 콤보의 재미를 유도했는데 위와 같은 요소가 들어간다면 다양한 기믹에 대한 요소들이 더욱 돋보이지 않을까 생각이 듭니다.
종합적으로 이 게임은 스타일리쉬한 방식을 선호하는 사람들이 좋아하는 게임이라고 생각합니다. 내가 컨트롤이 안좋아도 공격키만 연타를 하면 자연스럽게 원하는 방식으로 공격이 되니 진입장벽도 그렇게 높지 않은 것 같습니다.
제가 플레이를 해보면서 느낀건데 '이렇게 잘 만들었는데 왜 잘 알려지지 않았지?'라는 생각이 든 게임입니다.
누군가 저에게 어떤 게임을 해야할지 질문을 한다면 알려줄 수 있는 게임이 손에 꼽는데 이 게임을 추천해도 될만하다고 봅니다.
