게임 제목에서도 알 수 있듯이 이 게임은 기본적으로 청소하는 게임입니다. 4명의 청소부가 자신들의 과거를 되돌아보면서 대화하는 구성을 하고 있습니다. 회상 안에서 플레이어들은 현장을 정리하고, 경찰의 눈을 피하며 행동해야 하죠. 스토리가 진행될수록 많아지는 경찰들, 점점 난해해지는 시체들의 위치들이 도전 욕구를 자극합니다. 효과음과 음악들은 이 욕구에 부응합니다. 내가 그곳에 있는 것처럼 느낄 수 있죠.
게임을 이어나가면서 경찰을 유인하려고 터트린 소화기에서의 연기 소리, 차 도난방지 소리, 그리고 웅성거리는 경찰들까지. 경찰들을 속일 때마다 만족감을 늘려주었습니다. 배경음 또한 인상적이었는데, 특히 도심 뉴욕 속 주차장에서의 소리는 도시 한복판에 있다는 생각이 들게 해주었죠. 게임의 분위기와 알맞은 음악들이 게임 몰입을 도와주었죠.
그러한 사운드들은 다시 플레이의 몰입으로 이어졌습니다. 기본적으로는 경찰들에게 도망 다니며 지형지물을 활용하지만, 각 청소부의 특수한 능력들은 게임이 지루해지지 않게 해줍니다. 경찰들을 쉽게 유인할 수 있다든지, 불을 꺼버린다든지, 더 나아가 경찰들을 기절시킨 후 가두어 버리기까지. 매판이 지형지물만 달라진 전 판의 복제품이 아니라 플레이어한테 새로운 선택지를 제공하고 새로운 전략을 요구했죠. 경찰들을 가둬 버리는 건 정말 만족스러웠습니다. 저도 모르게 얼굴에 웃음이 피면서 “아 이거 갓겜이다.”를 말하게 했을 정도니까요.
하지만 아쉬운 점도 있었습니다. 게임 난도가 점점 높아져야 하는 건 맞지만, 어느 순간부터 비합리적이라는 생각이 들었습니다. 시체가 경찰들 사이에 벽도 없이 놓여 있을 때면 한숨이 나왔죠. 시체가 많아지면 더욱 그랬죠. 저장 전에 잡혀버려 지금까지 한 밑 작업이 물거품이 되면 어지러웠죠.
이점들을 고려하더라도 연쇄청소부들은 해볼 만한 게임입니다. 어려워도 계속 플레이하게 되며, 그를 돕는 여러 상호작용, 어울리는 음악들까지. 청소부들이 과거 회상을 진행하면서 마주하는 진실이 궁금하다면 직접 플레이해보세요!
