📢 Inquisitor Shepherd March Development Log
Hello.
We are Narrowdeep, the developers of Inquisitor Shepherd.
It's already March, heralding the start of spring.
Last February, we focused all our efforts on updating the demo and solidifying the game's foundation.
This month, we're sharing the development progress we've been working hard on to bring you good news.
We're sharing the current development status and new information.
🎮 Detailed Development Progress
1. Chapter 2 Sailing Smoothly and Chapter 3 Draft Commenced
Currently, Chapter 2 is accelerating detailed work to create a more interesting and suspenseful production.
In addition, we have begun drafting Chapter 3 in parallel to improve the overall story's completeness.
This month's work contains a lot of spoiler content that penetrates the core of the story, so we ask for your generous understanding that we cannot disclose the entire work illustration.
Instead, we will briefly introduce two major new characters who will lead the narrative of Chapter 2.
He often confuses Shepherd with his unique way of speaking, asking and answering questions at the same time.
He seems to be plotting something secret in collaboration with the mountain guide 'Linari'.
Vale Walter
He is the faith leader of the Hoshi Prayer House.
He is a mysterious figure who always disappears after the worship schedule, citing personal maintenance.
For some reason, he seems to already know about Shepherd, whom he met for the first time.
2. Successful Steam Next Fest and Global Expansion News
The English demo version released through the recent 'Steam Next Fest' received better-than-expected positive responses from global users.

당신의 안녕을 위하여(For Your Tranquility)는 과학 수사대에서 근무하는 법의관이 되어 사망한 피해자의 시신을 해부하고 사망 사건과 관련된 인물과 장소를 조사해 사건의 진상을 규명해야 하는 추리 어드벤처 게임이다. 시신을 부검해 피해자의 사망에 대한 정보를 파악하는 게임 플레이가 독특하게 다가오는 한편, 수사 기관이라는 배경과 시신 부검이라는 컨셉으로 인해 게임의 분위기는 상당히 무거운 편이다. 여기에 사건의 진실을 파악하기 위해선 시신에 담긴 정보와 더불어 모든 단서를 꼼꼼히 조사하고 파악해야 하니 높은 수준의 이해도와 몰입도를 요구하기도 한다. 이러한 독특하면서도 진중함이 느껴지는 게임 플레이로 지금으로부터 2년 전, 부산 인디 커넥트 페스티벌 2021에서 루키 부문 최고의 상인 라이징 스타 상을 수상한 바 있다.

피해자의 사망 원인을 파악하기 위해 피해자의 시신을 해부해야 하는데, 이를 꽤나 현실감 있게 구현한 모습이다. 메스와 핀셋을 비롯한 각종 수술 도구를 활용해 신체를 절단하고 심장이나 간, 뇌 같은 장기를 꺼내는 과정을 단순하면서도 실제 수술에 가까운 느낌으로 구현한 덕분에 플레이어의 입장에서는 어렵지 않게 시신을 해부할 수 있다. 여기에 각 장기의 조직을 채취해 현미경으로 관찰하는 과정 역시 잘 구현된 모습이고, 각 장기마다 사망의 원인이 될 법한 정보들을 잘 담아내고 있어 몰입도 또한 준수하다. 덕분에 실제로 수사 기관의 일원이 되어 시신을 해부하고 사건을 조사한다는 느낌을 제대로 받게 된다. 한편으로는 인체 내부의 각종 장기를 들춰내는 장면이 다소 거북하게 느껴질 수 있겠지만, 이를 인간의 신체 대신 수인의 신체를 해부한다는 컨셉을 내세워 거부감을 대폭 줄인 점 또한 인상적으로 다가온다.
게임의 모든 캐릭터들은 인간이 아니라 수인이다.
그러고보니 해부 실습에 가장 많이 활용되는 동물이 개구리라지,
실제 해부를 체험하는 듯한 현실감이 인상적이다.
물론 해부만이 이 게임의 전부는 아니다. 피해자의 사망의 원인을 제대로 파악하기 위해선 피해자의 시신 해부 뿐만 아니라 피해자와 관련이 있는 인물들을 취조하고 장소를 조사하여 단서를 수집해 추가 정보를 취득해야 한다. 하지만 앞서 언급한 해부와는 다르게 취조와 조사 부분은 허술하고 어설픈 면이 있다. 우선 각 단서마다 사건 리스트의 빈 칸을 채워넣어 단서에 담긴 정보를 확인하는 과정을 거치게 되는데, 피해자의 사망과 별로 연관이 없는 정보가 은근히 많은 데다가 정작 꼭 필요한 정보를 도출해내는 과정은 부족하다.
여기에 수집한 단서에 담긴 정보를 도출하기 위해 다른 부서에 의뢰를 맡길 수 있는데, 하나의 단서 당 오직 한 부서에만 의뢰를 맡길 수 있어 이 역시도 제한적으로 활용할 수밖에 없다. 게다가 한 번 본 지문은 다시 관람할 방법조차 없어 오로지 플레이어의 기억에만 의지해야 한다는 점 또한 치명적이다. 이로 인해 엔딩을 감상하기 위해 기입해야 하는 부검 감정서를 제대로 작성하기가 쉽지 않다. 보유한 정보를 바탕으로 사망 사건의 원인을 규명하기 위한 과정을 좀 더 뚜렷하게 구현했더라면 좀 더 괜찮지 않았을까 싶다.
해부 이외에도 조사와 취조 역시 큰 비중을 차지한다.
전화 한 번 잘못 거는 순간 정보가 하나 날아가버린다. 심지어 다시 볼 방법도 없다.
사실상 받아적기, 빈 칸 채우기를 못 벗어나는 정보 취합. 이마저도 불필요한 정보가 너무 많다.
그래도 살인 사건의 진상을 제대로 밝히지 못하는 배드 엔딩을 제외하면 남은 세 종의 엔딩은 나름 설득력 있는 결말을 보여준다. 세 결말의 내용이 극적으로 바뀌는 게 아니긴 하지만, 그 내용은 한결같이 우리 사회의 아픈 일면을 담아내고 있어 일말의 여운을 남기는 것과 동시에 플레이어의 입장에서 고민할 만한 가치 역시 충분하다.
다만 이를 감안해도 단 하나의 살인 사건만을 다루고 있어 컨텐츠가 부족하게 느껴지는 건 아쉽게 다가올 수밖에 없다. 단 3-4시간이면 모든 단서를 파악하고 엔딩을 감상할 수 있는 데다가, 만원이 넘는 게임의 가격을 생각하면 더더욱 그렇다. 그래도 개발사의 언급에 따르면 이번 정식 출시 이후에도 시간을 들여 추가 에피소드를 개발해 업데이트를 진행할 예정이라고 하니 그 쪽을 기대해보는 편이 좋을 듯하다.
방향이 한 쪽으로 치우친 감은 있지만, 나름 시사하는 바가 컸던 네 종의 엔딩.
다른 에피소드가 두 개 정도 더 있었더라면 아주 괜찮았을 듯하다.
이후에 추가될 추가 에피소드를 기대해보도록 하자.
과학 수사원이라는 배경에 더해 시신을 직접 해부하고 분석하는 게임 플레이는 다소 파격적이면서도 진중하게 다가온다. 여기에 각종 단서를 취합해 사건의 진상을 규명하는 과정과 무거운 메세지를 담고 있는 세 가지 결말은 진중함을 더한다. 하지만 보유한 정보를 바탕으로 꼭 필요한 정보를 걸러내는 과정이 빠져있어 결말을 위한 정답을 추론하기가 쉽지 않고, 이로 인해 엔딩을 보기가 다소 까다롭다는 점은 아쉽게 다가온다. 그렇다 하더라도 전문 수사 기관의 일원이 되어 사망 사건을 조사하는 막중한 임무를 맡은 느낌 하나만큼은 아주 잘 살린 게임이다. 따라서 시신 해부를 중심으로 사건의 진상을 파악하는 추리 게임을 찾는 이들이라면 능치 만족스럽게 즐길 수 있을 것이다.
