사람마다 일을 배우는 속도가 다르다. 누군가는 하루이틀이면 일머리가 좋아서 금세 능숙하게 일을 하는 반면 누군가는 한달 두달을 넘어서 일년 이년이 지나야 겨우 일을 해내곤한다. 하지만 남들보다 늦게 배울수록 오히려 그 결과치는 끝을 모르고 놀라운 결과를 보여주기도 하는데 우리는 그것을 대기만성형이라고들 한다.
오늘의 주인공 '엠마'가 그런 타입으로 보이는데 밀렵조직에서 제 몫을 하지 못해 매번 일을 훼방놓는 천덕꾸러기 취급을 받는 것으로 보입니다. 왜 남일같지 않을까? 내 눈에 흐르는 것은 눈물인가 냉각수인가...
그리고 밀렵단의 다음 목표로 귀여운 '샵'이 지목되면서 본 게임 '카투바의 밀렵꾼'이 본격적으로 시작됩니다. 저걸 잡는다? 아니다 잡는 척하면서 동료로 삼는 것입니다. 게임 경력이 몇년인데! 귀여우니 억지로라도 동료로 만들어야 하지 않겠어요?
농담은 여기까지! 게임에 대한 이야기를 해보겠습니다. 본 게임은 맵 상에서 한칸씩 이동을 하면서 인카운트하는 오브젝트에 대하여 이벤트가 발생하는 형식을 보여줍니다. 작은 적 아이콘은 일반 적이 나오고 큰 적 아이콘은 보스급 적이 등장하는 형식이죠. 참으로 정직한 적들 아닌가요? 정정당당한 승부를 펼치는 점, 높게 평가한다!
맵을 보게 되면 큰 아이콘이 의외로 많은데 그 말은 보스급 적이 상당히 많이 등장하는 것을 의미합니다. 개발자님이 게임태크에 붙여놓은 보스러시라는 것이 이것을 두고 한 말임이 틀림없겠죠? 첫번째 스테이지임에도 무려7개의 보스가 분포되어 있음을 볼 수 있습니다. 많은 보스는 많은 보상을 뜻하죠. 군침 돈다...
그리고 맵에서 엠마가 한칸 이동할 때마다 식량이 소모되는데 이에 대한 부분이 의외로 잘 인식되지 않으므로 식량 소모에 대한 것을 모르고 있으면 어느새 0이 되기 쉬우니 주의가 필요하다고 볼 수 있겠습니다. 이 부분에 대해서는 개발자 분의 블로그를 보니 개선을 하실 것으로 기대가 되더군요.
본 게임의 특징이라고 하면 엠마가 한턴을 움직일 때 목표물도 같이 움직인다는 것입니다. 나도 한칸 너도 한칸, 참으로 평등한 게임이 아닐 수 없네요. 덕분에 초반에는 얄밉게 도망가는 '샵'을 볼 수 있는데 영원할 것 같던 추격전도 다행히 일정 턴이 지나면 '샵'이 수면 상태로 들어가니 무한정 추격전을 벌일 일은 없어보입니다.
조작에 대해서 이야기를 해보겠습니다. 좌우 이동키와 스페이스바를 통한 점프를 하게 되는데 이 부분은 크게 칭찬해야 하지 않을까요? 점프는 스페이스바 가 국제룰이라고 할 수 있다. 간혹 위쪽 화살표로 점프를 해놓은 게임이 있는데 크게 반성해야 합니다.
전투는 일반공격키와 보조무기키 그리고 구르기키로 하게 되는데 보조무기의 경우, 전투 시 드랍되는 각종 총기와 방패 등을 활용해서 전투를 유리하게 이끌어 갈 수 있기에 게임 내에서 꽤나 높은 비중을 차지한다고 볼 수 있습니다. 보조무기만 잘 나와도 보스난이도가 상당히 내려간다고 볼 수 있을 정도이죠.
각 전투를 클리어하게 되면 일정량의 식량과 더불어서 3가지 랜덤 보상 중에서 하나를 획득할 수 있는데 엠마는 최대 6개의 스킬을 보유할 수 있으므로 미리 최적의 스킬 선택을 고려하는 것이 중요하다고 볼 수 있습니다.
예를 들면 보조무기 사용 시 번개가 생성되는 스킬을 보유하면 방패로 방어를 해도 번개로 딜을 넣을 수 있는 구조입니다. 조합에 따라서는 잠재력이 무궁무진하지 않을까 하고 조심스레 예상해볼 수 있습니다.
'카투바의 밀렵꾼'의 데모 버전은 10분정도의 짧은 플레이타임을 제공하였지만 그 사이에 충분히 기대가 될만한 게임성을 가지고 있음을 느낄 수 있었습니다. 일단 하고싶어지는 깔끔한 그래픽이 접근성을 높여주고 적절한 게임난이도는 플레이를 계속하고 싶어지게 하죠. 물론 단점이 몇개 있긴 하지만 앞으로의 충분히 개선될 것을 생각하면 정식출시가 꽤나 기대가 되는 작품입니다.
계속되는 보스와의 연전승부, 그리고 귀여운 동료 '샵'과 함께 떠나는 밀렵 모험! 엠마의 밀렵왕이 되는 여정 '카투바의 밀렵꾼'의 정식출시를 기다려보겠습니다.
