정신과 의사가 되어 환자들과 대화하며 삶의 변환점을 찾도록 도와주는 시뮬레이션 게임 '헬프 미!(Help Me!)'가 스토브 인디에 10월 27일 출시했다.
'헬프 미!'는 마음의 병을 극복할 수 있게 도와주는 역할을 그려내고 있는 게임이다. 아직 '마음도 병든다'라는 말은 인정해도 병원에 가서 진단받고 치료받는 모습을 당당하게 밝히기엔 약간 조심스러운 부분인 정신적 질환을 실제 정신건강의학과 의사가 게임 개발에 참여해 풀어내고 있다.
플레이어는 이제 갓 개원한 정신병원의 원장이 되어 공황장애, 해리성 기억 상실, PTSD, 조울증, 치매 등 겉으로는 멀쩡해 보여도 속으로는 곪아가는 사람들의 이야기를 듣고 환자 스스로 극복할 수 있게 도와줘야 한다.
점잖은 행동에 그렇지 못한 발언
환자는 자신을 물고기라고 생각하는 대기업의 후계자 라이건, 어릴 적부터 가족의 생계를 책임져오며 동생을 뒷바라지해온 나루, 한때 잘나가는 앵커였으며 지금은 가정을 꾸려 남편과 딸에 헌신적인 루시엘라까지 총 세 명의 메인 캐릭터와 네 명의 서브 캐릭터로 나뉜다.
일주일 단위로 일정표를 짜 진료를 진행할 수 있으며 환자와의 면담을 하게 된다. 어떻게 이야기를 이끌어 가고 치료를 해주냐에 따라 신뢰도와 치료도가 오르거나 내려간다. 메인 캐릭터의 경우 직접 치료수단을 선택해야 하며 서브 캐릭터는 정해진 미니게임을 진행하게 된다.

캐릭터의 상황을 파악해 적절한 치료를 해줘야한다
이 중 환자를 치료하는 것도 중요하지만 신뢰도 관리를 신경 써야 한다. 서두에서 말한 대로 정신병원에 오는 것에 대해 거부감이 있다는 것을 반영해 초반에는 실수 한 번이 환자가 병원을 떠나게 만들기도 한다. 이후 어느 정도 게임이 진행된 후에도 신뢰도가 부족하면 고를 수 없는 선택지가 나오는 등 제대로 치료해 주기 위해선 환자의 성향을 파악하고 신뢰를 쌓아야 한다.
치료 방법 또한 마찬가지다. 단순한 약부터 기계를 활용한 전문적인 치료 방식을 선택할 수 있는데 같은 방법이 환자마다 효과가 조금씩 다르며 고가의 장비를 부담스러워할 수도 있다. 다행히 해당 치료방식에 대한 간단한 설명을 계속 확인할 수 있으니 적절하게 선택해야 한다.

서브 캐릭터 치료를 위한 미니게임은 그라운딩 훈련, 같은 그림 맞추기, 심호흡, 노출 반응-금지까지 환자에 맞춘 네 가지가 있다. 성공할 경우 다음번엔 좀 더 높은 난이도로 진행할 수 있으며 실패해도 치료도에 영향을 주진 않으니 부담 없이 즐길 수 있다.
메인 캐릭터는 20일, 서브 캐릭터는 10일 병원을 방문하면 환자별 엔딩을 보게 된다. 치료 상태와 신뢰도에 따라 각기 다른 엔딩을 보게 되며 최악의 경우 20일을 채우기도 전에 극단적인 선택을 할 수도 있다.
모든 캐릭터는 언제든지 다시 초기화 시켜 처음부터 다시 상담을 시작할 수 있다. 서브 캐릭터는 엔딩을 본 이후에도 다시 병원으로 불러 미니게임을 진행할 수도 있다. 메인 캐릭터별 최소 세 가지의 엔딩이 있으며 수집한 엔딩은 업적창에서 다시 볼 수 있다.
서브 캐릭터의 경우 미니게임을 통해 치료를 진행한다
어느 정도 만나게 되면 캐릭터별 이야기는 끝을 맺는다

이처럼 '헬프 미!'는 다소 불편하고 숨기고 싶은 치부로 여겨지는 정신병을 살다 보면 누구나 겪을 수도 있을법한 이야기로 풀어내고 있다. 상담을 하기 전 병원에 미리 와있는 환자와 나누는 소소한 일상 이야기는 더더욱 현실감을 불어넣어 준다.
게임은 엄격한 아버지가 바라는 자식의 모습, 동생을 뒷바라지하는 큰 형, 자상한 남편과 소중한 딸을 돌보는 현명한 아내 등 특정 모습에 자신의 행동을 맞추는 모습 등 주변에서 어렵지 않게 찾아볼 수 있는 장면을 극복해 내는 과정을 보여주며 해당 증상을 겪는 사람들이 아픈 것도 맞고 이겨낼 수도 있다고 말한다.
몸이 아픈 것처럼 마음도 잠깐 아플 수 있으며 치유받을 수도 있다는 주제를 간단한 미니게임을 곁들여 이야기를 들어보고 대안을 제시하는 시뮬레이션 게임으로 만들어 낸 '헬프 미!'는 현재 스토브 인디를 통해 플레이할 수 있다.
