- Hello, this is Team Geudeok, who is making God (GOT). We are a team of 3 people who gathered to create a horror game based on Korean folk culture. Art Damu, Yachaebbang in charge of story and content planning, and Insul in charge of system planning, programming, and sound are working together.
The title ‘God (GOT)’ is very impressive. What is the meaning or intention behind the game title?
- God is a homonym for the English word GOD and GOT, and it is also a traditional Korean hat that symbolizes the son of heaven or connection with heaven. All three meanings were selected as the title because they fit well with the story and context of our game.
What made you start developing the game ‘God (GOT)’?
I am also curious if there was a special event or reason that led you to decide to develop it.
- God was first conceived in 2024 by Yachaebbang to submit to itch's game jam 'beautiful horror'
(https://itch.io/jam/beautiful-horror-jam). At the time, it was a text-based game of about 20 minutes using Twine, and Insul, an acquaintance, heard the idea and proposed collaboration, and the project began. Later, Art Damu joined to concretize the planning and form a team, and full-scale development began.
According to the introduction, it deals with strange phenomena that occur after the grandmother's funeral.
Is there an emotion or message you wanted to convey through this setting?
- A funeral is an event where an individual faces death. I thought that the various complex emotions and atmosphere felt after something that existed disappeared would suit the introduction of the game. It is also related to the core elements of the story.
Although it is a horror game, the story takes place in a limited space called ‘small room’.
Is there a reason for choosing this confined space?
- I wanted to express the horror that occurs in the most ordinary, unique space of an individual. Because there is an atmosphere that comes from the horror that occurs when things that you thought you knew are twisted.
I heard that ‘God (GOT)’ was developed with RPG Maker MV.
I am curious about the reason for choosing this engine and the pros and cons you felt while using it.
- I chose RPG MV to capture the rough feeling through the tile system and rigid UI. The advantages I felt while using it are that it has all the basic elements and that it is more expandable through plug-ins than before, and the disadvantage is that it is difficult to implement unexpected parts and I end up wandering around.
Compared to existing Tsukuru (RPG Maker) horror games, what are the differentiating points or unique attempts of ‘God (GOT)’?
- ‘God’ is a game conceived with inspiration from various horror games and movies. We tried to differentiate it by focusing on Korean themes, and I think the fact that we sought advice from various experts in the process can be a differentiating point.
You said that it proceeds in a point-and-click manner. What role do you think this method plays in conveying a sense of horror?
- Point-and-click is a genre that only allows limited interactions of clicking on an object and checking the reaction, and I think this increases the anxiety and fear caused by sudden changes or horror directing.
You said that you expressed ‘classic analog sensibility’ in the game’s visuals and sound direction.
Could you tell us specifically what parts you put that sense into?
- We tried to give a visual analog feel by limiting the use of colors and creating screen effects such as noise. The sound is being produced by intentionally lowering the sound quality or applying a muffled filter.
The play time was planned to be about 2 hours.
What kind of composition did you consider to maximize immersion within a short play time?
- We want to maximize various horror productions and unexpected situations, and increase immersion by adding adaptive sound elements.
In terms of the intensity or atmosphere of horror, what emotion is ‘God (GOT)’ focused on?
I am also curious whether you emphasized other emotions such as ‘anxiety’ or ‘discomfort’ rather than simple ‘surprise’.
- ‘God’ focuses on the surprise given by various unpredictable horror elements. There is also an aspect inspired by the movie ‘The Wailing’. I tried to capture the anxiety of not being able to understand the situation.
What age rating do you expect for the game?
For example, does it include visual shock or psychological horror expressions?
- Direct violent images and disgusting productions will not be included. The age rating is expected to be 12-15 years old.
On which platform will the game be released?
(e.g. PC, Steam, [itch.io](http://itch.io/) etc.) Do you have any mobile plans?
- We are focusing on preparing for PC release through Steam. We will try to release it on other platforms if conditions allow!
How are you planning language support?
Are there any plans to support overseas languages such as English and Japanese in addition to Korean?
- We plan to support English, Japanese, and Chinese.
Please tell us about any memorable episodes or difficult parts during the development process.
- In the process of conceiving the game's setting, a humanities lecture that I happened to listen to for fun was a lecture on shamanic beliefs, which is the subject of the game. It was difficult to conduct professional research on the parts that were blocked, but I was able to listen to the lecture and get good insights by asking for advice from the professor who gave the lecture at the time.
To fans who like horror games, or to players who want to understand the developer's perspective, what would you like to say about how you would like them to enjoy ‘God (GOT)’?
- As a person who likes classic movies and horror games, I wanted to combine the fun of this genre with the Korean theme that we are familiar with.

그렇게 포탈을 타고 들어가면 지금은 두 개만 존재하는 던전 입구를 만날 수 있습니다.

[소울 원더]는 5를 참 좋아하는데요.
5개의 무기, 5개의 던전, 5개의 종족이 존재합니다.
늑대, 사슴, 상어, 뱀, 여우 종족이 5개의 종족인데 주인공 페이드가
이 종족들을 때려 잡는 것으로 보아 이놈들이 페이드의 마을이 가지고 있던
영혼의 색깔을 빼앗아 간 놈들이라는 것을 유추할 수 있습니다.
그것도 빨강, 노랑, 초록, 파랑, 보라를 사이 좋게 하나씩 나눠 가졌죠.
또 페이드가 사용하는 무기들은 각 종족의 무기입니다.
빨강 - 여우(완드)
노랑 - 뱀(차크람)
초록 - 사슴(활)
파랑 - 상어(창)
보라 - 늑대(검)
현재 던전 입구는 사슴과 늑대 종족만 열려 있지만 저건 보스의 존재 여부에만 영향을 미칩니다.
한마디로 어느 입구로 들어가던지 모든 종족을 다 만날 수 있다는 이야기입니다.
먼저 초록색의 던전 입구로 들어간 저는 사슴 형님들을 만났습니다.
일단 던전에 들어가면 몬스터들을 사냥하여 상단에 있는 초록색 바를 채우고 빛의 나무를 활성화해야 합니다.
그래야 나갈 수 있는 입구가 생기기 때문이죠.
그렇다면 그 위에 있는 흰색 바는 무엇이냐?
바로 몬스터들이 강해지는 주기를 나타내는 타이머입니다.
자세히 보시면 해당 바는 총 네 개의 구역으로 나뉘어져 있는데요.
구역에서 구역으로 넘어갈 때마다 던전에 소환되는 몬스터들이 강해집니다.
사실 빛의 나무는 몬스터를 생각보다 조금만 사냥해도 자라나기 때문에
던전에서 금방 나갈 수 있습니다.
하지만 이 게임의 장르는 뭐죠? 바로 RPG입니다.
몬스터를 쓰러뜨려서 나오는 온갖 재화들을 그냥 두고 밖으로 나갈 RPG 유저는 없죠.
던전에서 나오는 몬스터들은 공통적으로 은색 동전과 무지개색 보석을 떨굽니다.
그리고 캐릭터 능력치를 강화하는 데에 사용하는 각종 색깔의 영혼들은
해당 색깔을 가진 종족을 사냥해야만 얻을 수 있습니다.
예를 들어 사슴 형님들은 초록색을 가지고 있기 때문에 초록 영혼을 드랍합니다.
그렇기에 계속해서 사냥을 하면 좋겠지만, 난이도가 상승하면 처음에 두방컷이 나던
몬스터들이 점점 피지컬을 키워서 세 대를 때려도 버티기 시작합니다.
(벌크업하신 사슴 형님덜...)
시간이 더 지나면 거의 보스에 해당하는 엘리트 몬스터들도 등장하기 때문에
적당히 돈 땄으면 판 접고 집에 가는 것이 현명합니다.
그렇지 않으면 들어간 첫 던전부터 죽고 태초마을로 돌아가는 불상사가 발생할 수도 있습니다.
(어떻게 알았냐고요? 저도 알고 싶지 않았습니다...)
비상탈출을 원한다면 맵 가운데에 있는 빛의 나무로 달려가 G키를 꾹 누르면 됩니다.

빛의 나무를 무사히 활성화시키면 보상과 함께
다음 던전을 향할 수 있는 두 개의 포탈이 생깁니다.
보상은 능력치를 강화하는 장비를 제공하는데요.
장비는 총 5개를 장착할 수 있습니다.(이것도 5개죠?)
보상으로 나오는 장비는 3개 중 옵션을 보고 하나를 고르면 되겠습니다.
초반에는 공격속도와 피해량이 매우 중요하기 때문에 해당 능력치 위주로
골라주면 좋다고 생각합니다.
사실 액션 RPG 하는데 공속이랑 피해량 안 고르면 그건 좀...
이후에는 포탈을 타면 됩니다.
그런데 여기서 중요한 점은 내가 원하는 색깔의 던전이 안 나왔다면
던전을 바꿔서 갈 수 있다는 것!
물론 몬스터를 사냥해서 나오는 재화인 은색 동전을 내야되긴 합니다.
하지만 여기 말고는 딱히 사용되는 곳이 없기 때문에 마음껏 사용하셔도 됩니다.
사슴 형님들만 나오면 서운하니까 아래는 다른 종족 형님들 사진을...
