You can collect stamps with this and receive amazing prizes later, so be careful not to lose it.
They say they will reissue it, but if you clear the quest and don't receive the reward, you have to do it again.
There are various types of quests, so you can get quest coins through various events such as greeting the staff and participating in games.
The easiest thing to do is to say hello, but the most coins you can get is by playing games.
If you play each type of game on page 17 three times, you can get 4 coins, and then you can play any game on page 25 three times to get 6 coins.
If you look carefully and line up in a place with few people, you can quickly collect coins.

오르고 올라 초속의 찢어발김으로 상쾌함을 즐기는 로그라이트가 있다?


'이 게임은 어떤 장르고 이건 이런 장르야' 이런 식의 장르 구분은 사실 흐릿해진 지 오래입니다. 쏘거나 맞거나 뿐인 슈터가 루팅 개념과 함께 RPG 요소를 담기도 하고 RPG는 액션에 어드벤처 성향을 다분히 담아내기도 하죠.


그래서 이 게임이 전에 없던 새로운 도전을 했다거나 장르 다변화를 끌어냈다는 말이 어울리지 않긴 합니다. 하지만 확실히 이쪽 부류의 다른 게임에서 잘 시도하지 않긴 했습니다. 종스크롤. 그러니까 옆으로 달려나가는 대신 위로 오르는 로그라이크는 어떻게 다를까요?


라이징 헬이 시선을 위아래로 옮기며 선택한 것과 얻은 것을 살펴보도록 하죠.

왜 세로? 아, 이래서 세로!


여러 발판이 등장해 플레이어의 길이 되기도 하고 자칫 방해하기도 하는 플랫폼 게임은 흔히 화면을 옆으로 길게 사용했습니다.


보통 게임에 맞춰 화면을 설정하는 예전 아케이드와 달리 요즘은 가로가 긴 모니터를 기준으로 제작되다 보니 플랫폼 게임은 그에 맞춰 화면을 넓게 쓸 수 있는 횡스크롤로 제작되죠. 또 사람의 시선이 보통 왼쪽에서 오른쪽, 위에서 아래로 이동하기에 이게 더 편안함을 느끼게 하기도 하고요.


그래서 플랫폼 게임의 수직플레이는 혼두라나 메탈슬러그의 일부 스테이지처럼 게임의 분위기를 환기하는 정도로 쓰일 뿐이었습니다. 종스크롤은 대부분 사이드뷰가 아니라 아이작의 번제 같은 탑뷰 형태로 그러졌죠.


스트라이커즈 1945 시리즈처럼 종스크롤을 적극적으로 사용하는 비행시뮬레이션은 화면 자체를 크게 움직이지는 않습니다. 마치 레일 슈터처럼 지역 이동은 알아서 진행되고 플레이어가 조작하는 기체 이동은 앞으로 나아가기 위함이 아니라 적의 움직임을 피하거나 공격을 맞추는 용도로 쓰이는 거죠. 그마저도 가로가 긴 요즘 화면에는 맞지 않아 화면을 일부만 쓰고, 닌텐도 스위치 같은 휴대용 콘솔은 아예 화면을 돌려서 쓸 수 있도록 했죠.



꽤 길게 '세로로 이동하는 게임'에 관해 설명한 건 위로 향하는 세로 플레이가 라이징 헬의 특징을 만들어낸 이유였다는 걸 이야기하기 위해서입니다. 라이징 헬이 다양한 발판을 밟고 올라서야 하는 플랫폼 게임이 기본 틀인 만큼 공격 이상으로 밟기 개념을 다양하게 활용하도록 했죠.


점프 후에, 혹은 그저 높은 곳에서 떨어지며 적에게 닿기만 하면 특유의 근접 공격이 발동됩니다. 따로 공격 버튼 없이 이루어지는 이 액션은 몸에서 전기나 가시, 혹은 독을 내뿜는 공격 상태만 아니라면 적을 간단히 지옥으로 보내버리죠. 아니 게임의 배경이 이미 지옥이니 천국행이라고 해야 할까요?


여기에 이 공격으로 점프 이력을 한 번 캔슬할 수 있어 마음만 먹으면 땅에 닿지 않고 적을 계속 밟고 무한으로 점프하며 위로 올라갈 수 있죠. 순간적으로 이루어지는 모션 캔슬과 기본 공격 여러 번 때릴 걱정 없는 강력한 공격력은 자연스레 숨 가쁜 수준으로 게임 템포를 높입니다.



세로 구성을 통해 비교적 폭이 좁은 공간에 밀려오는 적을 하나하나 공격하고 베어 죽이면서 적의 공격을 피해 위로 올라가라는 건 너무나도 귀찮고 피곤한 일일 겁니다. 플랫폼 개념을 살린 근접 공격은 종스크롤 이동의 특색으로 생기는 부담을 줄이면서 동시에 장점으로 만들어 냈습니다.




죽으면 안 된다? 아니, 죽어도 된다


라이징 헬은 밟기 액션을 통한 이동 속도에 더해 스테이지 루트의 복잡함을 덜어내며 지역 시작부터 종료까지를 아주 짧게 구성했습니다. 보통 5분에서 길어도 10분을 넘지 않는 구성으로 이루어졌죠. 이 점은 플랫폼 게임의 특징과 함께 라이징 헬의 다른 장르적 특색인 로그라이트의 플레이 변화를 그렸습니다.


로그라이트는 플레이어의 노력을 물거품으로 만드는 죽음을 일종의 보상행위로 만든 장르입니다. 결국은 더 강해지기 위한 행위. 즉, 특정 재화를 소비하기 위해서는 죽어야하는 단계를 가져야 한다는 건데 반대로 게이머는 가진 걸 모두 잃는다는 부담감에 되려 죽지 않으려고 하죠. 게임 디자인도 그에 따라 플레이어에게 도전 의식을 심어줄 수 있도록 최대한 길게 구성되어 있습니다.


하지만 라이징 헬은 게임의 길이를 최대한 짧게 만들며 이런 부담감을 줄여버렸죠. 굳이 오래 앉아 한 회차를 길게 가져가지 않아도 되고 죽었다고 해서 그리 큰 부담을 느끼는 것도 아닙니다. 어차피 또 몇 분만 도전하면 이전에 죽었던 곳까지 도달하니까요.


결국, 로그라이트의 핵심인 죽어서 강해진다는 특징을 이전 로그라이트에 어울리지 않는 세로 방향 플랫폼 게임으로 구현한 셈입니다. 물론 이게 빠른 설정을 위해 세로로 구성했는지, 아니면 세로로 만들다 보니 그 특징을 살려 속도를 빠르게 올릴 수밖에 없었는지는 알 수 없지만요.



게임의 템포가 빠르고 플레이의 비슷한 류의 게임보다 단순하게 그려지다 보니 주인공을 강하게 만드는 재화도 몇 종류 없습니다. 한 회차 내에서 주인공을 강화하는 데 쓰이는 붉은 영혼과 사망 후 다음 회차에서 캐릭터를 강화하거나 새로운 인물을 해금하는 데 쓰이는 역병. 오직 2개로만 구분했죠.


붉은 영혼과 역병 모두 게임 중 적을 제거하면 랜덤하게 드랍되는 것들이라 이걸 얻으려고 뭘 아끼고 뭘 팔고 할 필요가 없는 셈입니다.


재화와 함께 게임 중 적들을 제거해 얻는 유물이라는 이름의 무기는 각 특징에 따라 전기 공격이나 폭발 피해를 주긴 하는데 이것도 얻은 후에 사용할 수 있는 시간제한이 있고 공격할 때마다 그 제한 숫자는 더 빠르게 떨어지죠. 아껴 쓸 것 없이 그때그때 필요에 따라 쓰고 버리면 그만입니다.


주인공이 강해질 수 있는 약간의 장치가 레벨인데요. 이것도 한 회차를 마칠 때 얻은 경험치가 자동으로 적용되고 특성 같은 걸 따로 찍을 필요 없이 레벨에 따라 알아서 특정 능력이 해금되는 식입니다. 따로 신경 쓰지 않아도 되는 요소죠.


이처럼 라이징 헬은 더 빠르게 오른다는 메인 디자인 하나에만 신경 썼습니다. 죽을 걱정 덜 하면서 후딱후딱 달리는 식이죠.

로그라이크를 향한 더 높아진 기준 


다만 막상 최상층에 도달해 보스를 싸울 때는 좀 다릅니다. 일단 그간 활용처가 많아 유용하게 쓰던 근접 공격의 효율이 급격하게 떨어진다는 점입니다. 체력이 빵빵한 보스들은 당연히 이 근접 공격 한 번으로 죽지 않고 주기적으로 캐릭터 방향으로 공격을 날리죠.


그런데 근접 공격 이후 강제적으로 살짝 뛰는 모션 탓에 알고도 보스 공격을 맞을 수밖에 없습니다. 또 밟기 공격 판정이 아주 좋아 의도치 않게 보스에 다가갔다가 사용하는 일도 많고요.


그래서 점프나 밟기 공격과 비교하면 지나치다 싶을 정도로 느릿느릿한 이동과 일반 공격을 보스전에서는 많이 쓰게 됩니다. 결국, 기본적으로 주어지는 근접 공격 캐릭터인 아로크보다는 원거리 공격으로 느린 이동 조금이나마 덜 해도 되는 젤로스나 시드나를 선호하게 되죠.


물론 결국에는 높은 공격력과 이동의 다채로움을 더하는 밟기 공격을 활용 안 할 수는 없으니 이걸 익히긴 해야 하지만요.

가장 큰 단점은 게임의 속도만큼이나 질리는 순간이 빠르게 찾아온다는 점입니다.


라이징 헬은 꽤 오랜 기간 얼리 액세스를 진행했음에도 전체 분량은 여전히 짧습니다. 그렇다고 그럴듯한 스토리로 게임의 볼륨을 높인 것도 아니죠. 플레이어가 할 수 있는 건 기본적인 여정이 담긴 '정복'과 몇 가지 도전 과제를 주는 '시련'이 전부입니다.


지난 해 주요 게임 시상식을 하데스를 떠올려보죠. 하데스는 매력적인 그래픽이나 맵 구성의 짜임새, 파고들기 요소 등 로그라이크의 요소를 잘 지키기도 했습니다. 하지만 이 게임을 최고로 만든 건 주인공 자그레우스를 중심으로 신화속 인물들의 관계도와 로그라이크 속 죽음을 잘 설명해 낸 매력적인 스토리였습니다.


플레이어의 눈이 높아진 만큼 로그라이크도 단순히 강해진다는 걸 목표로 하는 걸 넘어 시스템에 어울리는 스토리와 몰입 가능한 요소들이 있어야 합니다.


그런 의미에서 속도감과 자연스러운 2D 그래픽에 이끌린 유저들이 오롯이 게임 플레이 하나에만 집중해 얼마나 오래 게임을 즐길 수 있을지는 모르겠다. 결국, 지옥의 악마를 다 때려 부순다는 게 핵심이고 그것 말고는 달리 설명할 게 없는 작품이니 말입니다.






자칫 얕게만 보이는 콘텐츠의 아쉬움을 이야기했지만, 사실 라이징 헬은 오래오래 즐기라고 만든 게임은 아닙니다. 얼리액세스 단계에서 게임을 가다듬어 담긴 내용들. 그리고 10,000원 정도의 게임 가격을 생각하면 충분히 남는다고 생각되기도 하고요.


그저 26,000원에 미칠듯한 볼륨을 담아낸 하데스가 미치도록 남는 게임이었던 것뿐입니다.


라이징 헬은 오히려 틈날 때 상쾌하게 악마들 녹여버리는 재미에 집중했죠. 복잡한 생각 하지 않고 쭉쭉 나아가면 되는 아케이드 성향의 로그라이트가 점점 적어지는 느낌도 있어 되려 간편한 느낌이 들기도 합니다. 자연스러운 도트 액션과 조작으로 마구 썰어버리는 쾌감도 좋죠.


여기에 화면을 능수능란하게 다루는 것도 주목할 만합니다. 적을 공격할 때는 화면 가득 캐릭터가 잡히도록 줌인해 액션성을 살림과 동시에 화면 폭을 넓혀 횡스크롤 플랫폼 게임의 느낌을 나게 합니다. 반대로 점프 등 일반적인 이동 시에는 화면을 쭉 뒤로 빼 위아래 상황을 쉽게 확인하도록 했고요. 종스크롤의 불편함을 최대한 줄이고자 한 거죠.

자연스러운 화면 전환은 눈에 잘 띄지 않지만, 제작진의 고심이 들어간 부분입니다. 여기에 보스전이 좀 까다롭다고 하긴 했지만, 보스까지 올라가며 좋은 능력을 얻었다면 비교적 막 싸워도 될 때가 있기도 하긴 합니다. 그런 랜덤성이 이 장르 특징 아닌가요?


어쨌든 게임이 살만한가, 혹은 이 가격에 어울리는 값어치를 하는지로 점수로 줘야 한다면 이 게임은 높은 점수를 줄 수 있을 것 같습니다. 오르기만을 기다리지 않고 직접 올라가는 재미가 여기 있으니까요.
