Before getting started

I'm a fat cat preparing for the full-fledged winter. (...I don't want to exercise, and winter food is delicious... Can I give up on bungeoppang and fish cake + fish cake soup at the food stall?) The game I'm going to introduce this time is an indie, deck-building, roguelike game called 'Hayo and the Emporium'. The reason I got to know and play this game is because of STOVE Indie's Wise Demo Life (currently Indie Boost Lab)I learned about this game there, and recently, this game appeared as a game recommended by AI on the main screen of STOVE Indie, and I was curious about how it would have changed from the demo version, and I was happy to see it after a long time, so I bought, downloaded, and played it.
Then, before I start talking about my thoughts in earnest, let me show you the gameplay video of this game first.

Review

First of all, in the case of the game's story, it was right to call it a concept. 「While the owner goes on an adventure to find treasure, Hayo runs the general store instead of the owner.」 That was the whole story.
The game's controls were simple. You could do everything with just a mouse click.
The game's progression was also simple. You just had to pay the increasing store maintenance costs and hold out until the owner came back. (Excluding the Demon King mode, which is an infinite mode)
I thought the game's system was complex and well-made. I'll talk about it in detail in the pros and cons below, but I had to leave the game's progress to luck more than other roguelike games, but there was a taste of combining even in that situation.

The game's graphics were 2D graphics with an animation style, and apart from being cute, it had scenes that stimulated various imaginations? (If an empty bottle is placed next to an archer who is holding in urine, the empty bottle is filled with yellow liquid...)
In the case of sound, there was only one BGM and not many sound effects, but the sense of hitting (sound effects) was good, so I didn't feel bored.
Unfortunately, there were bugs. A total of 2 bugs were found while playing the game and writing the review, and the problem was that both of them were bugs that stopped the game from progressing or prevented the game from progressing normally. (Currently patched.)

Evaluation at the time of the demo version

Before dividing the game into pros and cons, let's talk a little bit, Honestly, I was more worried than 기대.
Based on the demo version, the drawing style is cute and there are scenes that stimulate various imaginations, but that was not the main (main content) of the game, and above all, unlike other deck-building likes, almost I had to rely on luck for everything, so there was almost no taste to it.
So I played the game with more worries than expectations about how it would be released, but until the beginning, it felt similar to the demo version, but At some point, I was playing the game like an old man spinning a slot machine in an arcade.
-Pros-

1. Fun of combining
-There was the fun of combining, which is the biggest fun of roguelike.
-As the maintenance cost required increases towards the end, it is true that good items appear towards the end, but that does not mean that the items you get in the beginning are weak or relatively bad.
-For example, there is a character called 'Eri', who basically destroys lower-level scrolls (10 gold when destroyed) that appear randomly in the selection with a 30% probability, but here, through the wizard's hat, wizard's tears, and wizard's teddy bear, you can stably acquire scrolls without having to choose a selection and destroy 20 each with a 60% probability. (Of course, you can mix other items here.)
-What's important here is that the activation condition of the card is in the form of a simple 'destruction' rather than a fixed condition such as 'destruction to Eri', so the deck could be combined flexibly. (Except for certain sets)

2. Fun to see and hear (sound, graphic performance)
-It was an advantage related to advantage 1.
-At first, I honestly didn't think it was an advantage. There are cute drawings and animations that stimulate various imaginations, but you get tired of it after one or two times, and there was only one BGM in the first place.
-However, it became an advantage in a different way as I started to combine in earnest and put a speed on the game.
-Items quickly appeared as if they were falling from above, and at the same time as a strong hitting sound, the screen shook and each item showed its own unique effect, making me feel like I was hitting a jackpot on a slot machine, and it made my dopamine explode, so it changed from just so-so to an advantage.

-Cons-

1. Difficulty of settling
-It took some time to really feel the fun, and the process was a bit unpleasant.
-It wasn't that all items were unlocked from the beginning, but that items that appeared by playing the game and achieving achievements were unlocked, but up to this point, it was the same as other games, but the problem was that this game was more affected by luck than other deck-building roguelikes.
-I had a lack of understanding of the game, and in a situation where I didn't have enough items to complete the deck, I had to proceed with the game with just luck, and I had to die several times in the process, and of course, watching that process wasn't very pleasant.
-So I think I didn't find it fun in the demo version.

Finishing

I'll finish. It was a fun game with the fun of combining and the fun of seeing and hearing.
However, since it depends more on luck than other games, the process of going to the stage of feeling fun felt a bit unreasonable.
-Additional-
1. I recommend playing the game at 3x speed. There are no particular disadvantages (time limit, etc.), and it maximized the moment when dopamine explodes.

2. In the beginning of the game, it is difficult to feel the fun of this game, and in the section where you feel the irrationality that varies depending on luck, there was a lack of things to feel fun, so I wish there were more performances (animation according to the set).

I was fortunate enough to win a Stove Beaver Rocks invitation ticket and went with a friend on the 6th (Saturday).

It was worth writing the two-line poem diligently :)

Actually, I was going to write it right after coming yesterday..

5 hours round trip + lack of sleep issue

1. Admission: Exciting mind, not so much waiting line

I like games, but it was my first game festival, so I visited with an exciting mind.

When I arrived around 10 o'clock and entered the Art Hall, I thought, 'Are there not many people because it's an indie game?'

Oops.

A long waiting line visible around the corner..

I was going to buy San Nabi goods, but the waiting line was so long that I gave up early ㅜㅜ

2. Guidebook & Quest System

If you exchange your ticket, you can receive this Beaver Rocks Guide & Quest Book.

Visitors are also called adventurers, which gave me a game-like feeling and made it easy to check what I could do ㅎㅎ

You can proceed with various quests such as greeting, playing games, and participating in stage events.

If you complete quests and collect stamps, you can exchange them for B tokens.

You can do a lottery at the reward zone with B tokens.

3. Game Booth: Concept is 'RGB'

In line with the concept, the game booth is divided into RGB + S (Sponsor Zone).

It was nice that the area was divided according to user preferences.

I ended up playing games mainly in the R and G zones.

There were many games I wanted to play, but there were so many people everywhere that I couldn't play as much as I thought ㅜㅜ

(I'm grateful that there's so much interest in indie games..)

I think it was because there were many booths with only 1-2 computers available for demonstration..

Still, it was so nice to be able to communicate directly with the game developers.

I solved my curiosity about the game, gave feedback, and shared other trivial topics.

And I was happy to receive various goods just by simple participation..

4. Stage: Influencer Event

In addition to the game booth, another fun content was the influencer event held on the stage.

It was also a key source of B tokens for me.

I went to 'Jjamta SuA: Mission Impossible' and 'Kim Sung-hoe's Indie Game Jewel Box'.

The two of them were great talkers, and thanks to MC Lee Kang-hak's witty and smooth progress, I enjoyed it without realizing the time.

5. The long-awaited reward zone: REWARD, should I get it??

I enjoyed it hard all day, so I should get a REWARD, right?

I headed to the reward zone with the B tokens I had collected diligently.

In the reward zone, Naver Lucky Draw and the long-awaited B token lottery were prepared.

Four types of lottery were possible depending on the number of tokens: 1, 4, 8, and 12.

My goal is only one. Gaming mouse in the 12 draw line!

The probability is so good, right?

But just in front of us, someone 뽑으신 drew a mouse.

'Oh, it does get 뽑히긴 drawn.'

When I asked the staff who was guiding me, they said that there were more than 30 mice left, so don't worry.

If it's true, the probability seems to be over 20%, so I added a lot of excitement.

Dunno if video uploading works but this "combat information has been disrupted"  crap is making this game completely unplayable. How is this not rushed? Any game mode, any team, any situation - every card or ego played is giving this error message and the game "refreshes" with several seconds of a black screen

공허 속에서 펼쳐지는 두 사람의 스페이스 오페라, '스틸 데어(Still There)'


우주를 배경으로 한 고스트샤크의 퍼즐 게임 '스틸 데어(Still There)'가 스토브에 정식 한글어 번역과 함께 출시됐다.


스틸 데어는 광활한 우주 속에서 시공간의 뒤틀림 속에 빠진 두 사람이 무전을 통해 연락을 주고받으며 삶을 되돌아보는 한 편의 드라마다. 불안정한 우주선 속에서 펼쳐지는 각종 위기 상황을 마우스로 이곳저곳 클릭해 퍼즐을 풀어 해결하며 결말에 이르게 된다.


게임 속 주인공 칼은 1인 관리체계로 운영되는 우주 등대 벤토 속에서 가족과 단절된 채 별 방사선 관측을 하는 오퍼레이터다. 공허한 우주 속에서 말 상대는 이따금 오는 무전을 제외하면 벤토의 인공지능 부관 고키뿐이다.

근미래를 배경으로 삼는 스틸 데어는 우주선 속이라는 설정에 맞춰 미래임에도 현실에서 과거에나 볼 법한 골동품들이 즐비하다. 그러면서도 모뎀이나 아마추어 무전 통신기 따위로 우주 공간에서 다른 우주선과 통신을 한다던가 인공 지능 오퍼레이터가 감정을 느끼는 등 현대 과학으로 불가능해 보이는 기술력까지 있다.


여기에 그로테스크한 캐릭터 일러스트와 이따금 꿈속이나 정신을 잃었을 때 보이는 초현실적인 공간과 미지의 존재들까지 초현실적인 점이 합쳐져 게임 내내 미래 우주 공간에 있다는 느낌을 받게 해준다.

스틸 데어는 혼자서 모든 상황에 대응하는 주인공처럼 플레이어도 게임 내내 세세한 조작을 직접 터득해야 한다. 마치 플레이어도 우주에 던져진 것 마냥 처음 게임을 시작하고 난 뒤 간단한 조작법을 제외하면 어떤 해결책도 주어지지 않는다. 고키가 약간의 조언은 주지만 풀이과정은 아니며 플레이어가 매뉴얼을 참고해 물체와 일일이 상호작용해가며 풀어야 한다.


매일매일 중앙 컴퓨터를 통해 주어지는 일과를 수행한 뒤 식사를 한다거나 주사를 놓는 등 개인적인 스케줄까지 완료한 뒤 잠자리에 들면 하루가 끝난다. 이런 단조로운 일상 속에 정체불명의 방송 메시지를 수신하게 되고 조난당했다고 소개하는 엘을 만나게 된다.

칼은 정의감에 불타는 성격인지 오랜만에 주고받는 사람과의 대화 탓인지는 몰라도 가능한 모든 수단을 동원해 엘을 구하고자 한다. 이를 위해 근처에 지나가는 군함과 교신해 법을 근거로 협박하며 좌표를 보내는데 구조되고 극적으로 만나게 되면 좋겠지만 스틸 데어는 결코 순탄한 해피엔딩이 아니다.


발신원을 해적떼로 여긴 군함은 벤토에 미사일을 발사한다. 이를 피하려고 벤토의 좌표를 숨기고 전원을 과부하 시켜 탐지가 안되게 하려는 등 모험 아닌 모험을 한다. 여기에 언제 고장 나도 이상하지 않은 상태의 우주선이 일으키는 각종 비상사태까지 더해지며 엘을 만난 이후로 평범한 일상이 복잡하게 돌아가기 시작한다.

이런 일련의 과정을 화면에서 보이는 패널을 클릭해 조작해서 퍼즐을 풀어가야 한다. 단순히 물건을 다른 데서 찾아가져다 놓는 퍼즐부터 시작해 일정한 패턴에 맞게끔 스위치를 눌러줘야 하는 퍼즐, 특정 음과 박자를 정확하게 연주해야 하는 퍼즐 등 직관적이나 정답을 찾기는 꽤 어려운 퍼즐이 준비되어 있다.


문제는 앞서 말했듯이 힌트가 없다는 점이다. 칼과 고키의 대사로 알 수 있는 것은 힌트라기보다는 룰을 설명하는 것에 가까우며 매뉴얼 또한 마찬가지다. 풀이 과정은 일체 도와주지 않는다. 우주 속에서 혼자 있는 것을 반영이라도 하는 듯 외로이 모든 것을 풀어 나가야 한다.

그나마 다행인 점은 매번 퍼즐을 풀 때마다 좀 더 쉬운 난이도의 퍼즐로 바꿔 진행할 수 있는 점이다. 조작해야 하는 버튼이 몇 개 사라져 경우의 수가 줄어드는 식으로 난이도가 조절되며 대신 도전 과제를 달성할 수 없는 페널티가 주어진다. 아쉬운 점으론 퍼즐에 대한 직접적인 힌트가 없다는 점이 어떻게 보면 매우 불친절하게 느껴진다는 점이다. 시작부터 우주 공간에 내동댕이쳐진 것 마냥 퍼즐에서 막힌 뒤 좌절하고 흥미를 잃기 쉽다.


그래도 이 게임은 퍼즐 풀이에 제한 시간을 두지 않는다. 평화로웠던 배경음악이 긴장남 넘치는 박자로 바뀌고 위험을 알리는 기계음이 계속해서 울려도 어떤 방식으로든 퍼즐을 풀어내면 시간과 상관없이 스토리가 자연스럽게 진행되기 때문에 퍼즐을 하나둘씩 풀어 갈수록 이야기 속에 녹아들게 된다.

스틸 데어의 특징 중 하나는 등장인물의 대사가 약간 매콤하다는 점이다. 말하는 문장만 놓고 보면 일단 전체 이용가에선 나오지 못하는 단어가 툭툭 튀어나온다. 은밀히 숨기는 것도 아니며 대놓고 어른의 세계를 걸쭉한 비속어까지 섞어가며 자연스럽게 들어가 있다.


이는 직접적으로 자신의 심정을 표현하진 않지만 외로운 우주 공간 속에서 점차 심각한 상황에 직면하고 예민해진 등장인물들의 심정을 표현하고 있다. 점차 자신을 조여오는 죽음의 공포를 느끼는 엘, 죽음을 넘어 시간 변칙성에 갇힌 칼 등 다소 거칠지만 직설적인 단어 속에서 그들의 절박함이 담겨있다.

극한의 상황 속 입은 거칠지만 진심으로 서로의 안녕을 빌어주는 두 사람의 이야기를 담은 스틸 데어는 2019년 스팀에 출시된 이후 현재까지 매우 긍정적인 평가를 받고 있으나 스토리가 중심임에도 그간 언어의 한계로 깊이 이해할 수 없어서 아쉬웠었다.


이를 스토브 인디에서 정식으로 한국어로 번역해 출시했다. 우주 공간 속 두 사람의 결말은 어떻게 맺어지는지 기묘하면서 감정적인 스페이스 오페라를 스토브 인디를 통해 좀 더 깊이 이해해 볼 수 있으면 한다.
