About two years ago, when I was a senior in high school, I happened to browse the visual novel list on Steam and came across 52Hz.
The unique title '52hz', which seemed to hide a story, and the blue and dreamy feeling in the thumbnail, along with the aquarium illustration... It was enough to open my curiosity and wallet, and I remember sharing my screen with a friend on Discord until dawn that day and binge-watching it until the end. (The aquarium illustration with a dreamy feeling often came to my mind during training, so I used it as my profile picture ㅋㅎㅋㅎ)
The protagonist who tries to end his life by giving up his dream for realistic reasons, and Yeonhee who hires such a protagonist.
At first, I thought it was a romance, but after the middle, the direction turned into a suspenseful development, and I became more and more immersed in the story. And the story device of Yeonhee's secret being revealed near the end... I thought, "Ah, this is a really well-made visual novel." The OST that flowed at the end also remained in my memory for quite a long time.

Now, two years later, the DLC has been released, but I am also serving in the military for realistic reasons, so it was difficult to play it myself.. Nevertheless, I wanted to see the After Story so much that I borrowed an account from a friend who went on vacation and asked him to share the screen. Fortunately, my friend readily agreed, and I was able to watch the ending of the After Story over two days.
The After Story, which I saw with difficulty, was a work that exceeded expectations. In the work, there is a callback to the main story, "What are you thinking that you are looking at the gift with those eyes?", even the intonation and accent of the voice actor... It was almost the same as the line that came out when I first met Yeonhee in the main story, so I was so happy as soon as I heard it. As a fan, I really like these moments..

Yeonhee and the protagonist's tiki-taka and chemistry were also good. I think it prevented the boredom in the beginning part that could have been boring. I'm sure she's an older sister, but at some point, I was watching with a happy dad smile..
Also, I usually thought that After Story would be a short episode, but this DLC was similar in length to the main story, so it felt like watching another work. Above all, the writer's unique suspenseful development and writing skills were so good that I never lost my immersion while playing, except when my senior talked to me.
I remember seeing the atmosphere change drastically in 3 seconds when the protagonist's condition deteriorated..
In the work, the protagonist shows a blind sacrifice for love and does not bend his will that he is right. However, the self-destructive sacrifice makes us wonder, is the remaining person happy? and it was unique to use his younger self as a medium to awaken this. The only thing that fits the medium that needs to know the protagonist's situation so well and tell the protagonist that he is wrong from an objective point of view is the protagonist himself in another timeline..
Through his own words in the car 2 years ago, he realizes "I only need you!" instead of self-destructive sacrifice.
However, the protagonist's self-destructive sacrifice was not reckless as a result, and through the process of treating the protagonist with Yeonhee's treated cells, the protagonist and Yeonhee once again completed the narrative of salvation for each other. (In the main story, Yeonhee saved the protagonist who lost the meaning of life and was dying, and in After, Yeonhee saved the protagonist who was trying to save Yeonhee who was dying..?)
The process of unraveling the story of the protagonist's dream, which was not covered in the main story, as it progressed to the climax of the story was also impressive. It could have been a somewhat boring development, but I think I was naturally immersed in it because of the expectation of how we would overcome this seemingly impossible situation together while maintaining plausibility.
(I also wondered if I had extinguished the fire of my dream with laziness and realistic rationalization, and I had time to reflect on myself.)
I was happy to hear the ost again in the highlight part of the story. Personally, I wanted it to come out one more time.. I think they saved it for this moment, which will shine the most in After Story, rather than sending it out at the end like the main story.
(I remember being very immersed because I was watching it lying on my bed in the living quarters, so it was similar to the protagonist's point of view ㅋㅎㅋㅎ)
The main story ended with the subtitle 'True Ending' as an open ending, but in the last of After Story, the subtitle 'Happy Ending' finally put an end to the story.. Personally, I really liked this directing.

When I play visual novels, there are often works that leave something to be desired compared to expectations, but 52hz was more than expected from the main story to the after story. It has been a great vitality during my military life, and thanks to it, I have enjoyed playing as a fan and as a user, and I think it will be a work that will remain in my memory for a long time ㅎㅎ

지팡이게임즈의 퍼즐 플랫포머 인디게임 '턴택'이 스토브를 통해 정식 출시했다. 턴택은 19년도에 얼리 엑세스를 통해 게이머에게 미리 선보인 바 있으나 퍼즐 플랫포머라는 형식만 유지한 채 주인공의 설정과 게임의 스토리를 바꾸어 정식 출시했다.
정식 출시한 턴택의 스토리는 아즈텍 신화에서 차용했다. 4천년의 주기마다 물, 바람, 불, 땅에 의해 순서대로 멸망하고 다시 탄생되기를 반복한 다섯 번째 세계는 이제 또다시 멸망의 주기로 접어들고 만다. 태양이 빛을 잃은 세계에서 다시 세상을 환하게 하기 위해선 흰머리의 사람을 제물로 바쳐야 한다.

빛을 잃은 세계인 만큼 게임 내내 꽤 어두운 화면을 보게 된다. 이런 어둠 속, 도망치는 소녀의 흰머리는 아예 빛을 발산하고 있으며 자신을 노리는 사람들뿐만 아니라 동식물까지 목숨을 앗아간다. 어떤 지역은 오래 노출되면 숨이 막혀 사망할 정도로 공기마저 오염되어 있다.
이런 암울한 상황에서 소녀는 달리고 또 달린다. 과거에 세상을 멸망케 한 네 가지 요소인 물, 바람, 불, 땅과 연관된 지역을 순차적으로 순회하며 자신을 둘러싼 세상의 비밀을 파헤쳐 간다.

게임을 시작하면 사원에서 자신을 제물로 바치려는 사람들을 피해 흰머리의 소녀가 달리기 시작한다. 연약한 소녀가 할 수 있는 일은 그저 좌우로 달리고 약간씩 높이 뛰며 뭔가 집을 수 있는 물체가 있으면 질질 끌거나 들어 다른 곳에 옮기는 일뿐이다.
이를 반영해 조작 버튼이 단 4개밖에 존재하지 않는다. 좌로 이동, 우로 이동, 점프, 상호 작용까지 총 네 개로 한정된 조작 체계는 수동적으로 움직일 수밖에 없는 소녀의 심정이 느껴질 정도로 상당히 제한적인 움직임을 보여준다.

다만 풀어야 하는 퍼즐은 단순하지 않다. 턴택의 퍼즐은 단순히 나무를 밀거나 당겨 지나갈 수 있는 길을 만드는 간단한 퍼즐부터 시작해 개구리나 돌이 발산하는 영역 안에서만 움직일 수 있어 끊임없이 위치를 옮겨가며 신중하게 전진해야 하는 지역, 벽화를 보고 알맞은 돌을 배치해야 하는 퍼즐 등 한 번쯤은 머리를 써봐야 하는 퍼즐이 준비되어 있다.
이 중 가장 퍼즐을 풀기 힘들게 만드는 요소는 두 번째 스테이지부터 바로 등장한다. 바닥에 알 수 없는 신비한 문양이 새겨져 있는 돌을 들면 근처를 떠도는 영혼이 소녀의 움직임에 반응하기 시작하는 데 이를 조정해 반대쪽의 사물을 조작하여 넘어가야 한다.

이때 단순히 소녀의 움직임에 반응하는 것뿐만 아니라 소녀가 어디 위치했는지에 따라 형상까지 바뀌며 심지어 영혼을 통해 또 다른 영혼을 조작해야 하는 경우도 있다. 문제는 소녀가 움직일 수 있는 이동 반경이 위험한 지형지물로 제한되어 있어 전략적인 움직임을 요구해 게이머를 이중 삼중으로 골치 아프게 한다.
이를 더욱 알 수 없게 만드는 것은 게임 내에서 일체의 설명이 없다는 것이다. 심지어 등장인물끼리 대사조차 없다. 게임을 플레이하면서 문자를 보는 순간은 오로지 게임 시작 전 메인화면과 종료 후 뜨는 스태프롤 뿐이다. 퍼즐을 마주했을 때 어떻게 움직여야 할지 알려주는 건 어쩌다 마주치는 추상적인 벽화들뿐이며 이마저도 직접적인 힌트를 제공해 주지 않는다.

하지만 이러한 불투명한 요소들이 오히려 턴택만의 매력으로 다가온다. 퍼즐 파훼에 실패하거나 죽어도 바로 직전에서 살아나기 때문에 흰머리를 가진 자신이 조작하는 캐릭터를 제외하면 눈에 확 띄는 것 없이 어둡고 침침한 배경 속에서 끊임없이 차분하게 재도전하며 퍼즐을 풀어가는 재미를 느낄 수 있다.
게임 내에 배치된 추상적인 벽화와 시네마틱 연출 또한 공통된 주제를 반복하고 있음과 동시에 뚜렷한 스토리 해석을 해주지 않는다. 이는 한 번 볼 땐 담긴 의미를 파악하기 힘들지만 곱씹어 생각해 보며 게임 내에서 소녀가 왜 도망가고 세계를 둘러싼 비밀이 무엇인지 자신만의 추리로 정리해볼 수 있다.
아즈텍 신화를 차분하게 추리해보며 경험해볼 수 있는 플랫포머로 출시된 '턴택'은 현재 스토브 인디를 통해 플레이할 수 있다.
