Locking Items: See a weapon you want but can’t afford yet? For a small price, you can now Lock items in the shop. This prevents them from disappearing between days or rerolls.Selling Items: You can now sell weapons or upgrades you already have equipped. Just click the new "Sell" button on the shop screen and select what you would like to sell.
QoL: Before & After Stats
Finally, we’ve added more information to your stats! You can now see more clear "Before and After" information in the stat screens.
Whether you are equipping clothing and accessories or upgrading things in the shop, you’ll see exactly how your numbers will change.

‘축구 게임’ 이라고 하면 일반적으로 플레이어가 다양한 선수들을 직접 조작해서 경기를 치르고, 다른 유저나 CPU와 승부를 겨루는 게임을 떠올리기 쉽습니다. 아마도 전 세계에서 가장 유명한 축구 게임일 <피파>(FIFA) 시리즈가 그러하고, 또 우리나라에서 잘 알려진 <위닝 일레븐>(Winning Eleven) 시리즈가 그러합니다.
하지만 축구 마니아들 사이에서 특히나 인기가 높은 시리즈인 <풋볼 매니저>(Football Manager) 시리즈는 <피파>나 <위닝일레븐>과는 전혀 다른 관점으로 ‘축구’를 다룹니다. 바로 플레이어가 ‘감독’(매니저)가 되는 것입니다. 플레이어는 선수를 일절 조작할 수 없으며, 그저 ‘감독’의 위치에서 팀을 경영하고, 팀의 전술을 짜고, 다양한 선수들의 컨디션을 관리하고 그들에게 전술을 ‘지시’할 수 있습니다.
어찌보면 직접 선수들을 ‘조작’할 수 없다는 점에서 굉장히 심심하고 지루한 게임이라고 생각할 수도 있지만, 실제로 게임을 해보면 이런 생각은 순식간에 사라지게 됩니다.
‘감독’의 입장에서 팀을 경영하고, 선수들을 관리하고, 자신의 전술대로 팀이 움직여서 마침내 승리를 거두고. 이러한 일련의 과정은 그야말로 ‘빠져나올 수 없는’ 몰입감과 재미를 선사하기 때문인데요. 흔히들 극한의 몰입도를 가지고 있기 때문에 ‘타임머신’으로 불리는 게임으로 <문명> 시리즈를 꼽지만, 이 <풋볼 매니저> 시리즈 또한 게임 마니아, 특히 축구 마니아들한테는 ‘타임머신’ 그 이상의 무언가 위험 물질(?) 취급을 받을 정도입니다.
전술 구상부터 팀 재정관리 등. 감독이 할 수 있는 모든 일을 다 할 수 있다.
특히 축구를 잘 알고, 실제 해외 축구를 새벽 늦은 시각에도 시청할 정도로 열성적인 축구 마니아들에게는 어떻게 보면 자신의 ‘꿈’을 실현시킬 수 있다는 점에서 정말 여러 의미로 위험한 게임입니다. 참고로 <풋볼 매니저> 시리즈는 과거 영국에서 ‘이혼사유’로 인정받았다는 이야기가 있을 정도입니다.
레알 마드리드의 감독이 되어서 손흥민을 영입할 수도 있고, 다른 자신만의 '꿈의 스쿼드'를 만들어볼 수도 있다.
<풋볼 매니저> 시리즈는 전신인 <챔피언십 매니저> 시리즈부터 따지자면 근 20년 넘게 이어저온 시리즈이고, 매년 신작을 발매하고 있습니다. 최신작은 <풋볼매니저 2021>.
하지만 아무래도 시리즈가 오래 이어져온 만큼 신작이 발매될 때마다 ‘전작보다 발전된 것이 없다’는 볼멘소리는 꾸준히 있었고, 특히 지난 해 발매된 <풋볼매니저 2020>의 경우, 전작에 비해 답보된 발전, 수많은 버그 등으로 인해 단순한 불멘소리가 아니라 ‘비난’을 받으며 곤혹을 치러야만 했는데요. 하지만 이번에 발매된 <풋볼매니저 2021>은 전작의 비난을 상당 부분 수용하면서 보다 나아진 매치 엔진, 그래픽, 그리고 게임성으로 호평을 받고 있습니다.
<피파> 같은 게임에 비하면 비주얼 퀄리티는 좋지 않지만, '감독'으로서 경기의 흐름 자체를 보는 데는 문제가 없다.
다만 아무래도 이 게임을 처음 시작하는 ‘초보자’라면 게임의 방대한 요소들 때문에 적응하는 데 다소 시간이 필요하다는 것이 문제점입니다. 게임사는 초보자들의 적응을 돕기 위해 다양한 튜토리얼과 편의 시스템을 선보이고 있지만, 이제는 그 튜토리얼과 편의 시스템도 ‘배워야 할 정도’로 방대한 것이 아이러니 하다고 할까요?
