제공될 빌드에서는 '병원' 스테이지의 일부를 플레이할 수 있었으며, 한층 더 괴기하고 공포스러운 연출을 확인할 수 있었다. 플레이어는 '모노'를 조종할 수 있었으며, 노란색 우비를 입은 전작의 주인공인 '식스'가 동료로 함께 한다. 모노는 식스와 달리 도구를 사용해 적에게 대항할 수 있다.
식스는 직접적으로 조종할 수 없지만, 손을 잡고 함께 움직이거나 식스를 불러서 상호작용을 할 수 있는 정도다. 혹은 식스의 도움을 통해서 스테이지 특정 구역으로 이동하기도 한다. 플레이어는 모노를 조종하면서 긴박한 상황에서 퍼즐을 풀며 스테이지를 진행해야한다. 간혹 혼자 남은 식스의 행동을 보면, 전작에서 보여준 섬뜩한 연출이 생각나는 모습도 있었다. 다행히 이번 빌드에서 식스는 배고프지 않은 것 같다.
차후 본편에서는 자신 또는 동료인 ‘식스’를 살리기 위해서 재빠른 결단을 내려야 하는 순간이 다가오기도 할 예정이다. 또한 이러한 새로운 방식과 더불어 플레이어는 이전 시리즈의 배경인 ‘목구멍’(The Maw)바깥 세상을 모험하고, 어둠으로가득 찬 황야 등 새로운 환경을 탐험하며, 가학적인 선생과 같은 적들을 마주하며 진실을 마주하게 된다.
‘리틀 나이트메어2’의 한국어판은 PlayStation®4, Xbox One(디지털), Nintendo Switch™,PC(디지털)플랫폼으로 2021년 발매 예정이다.
