방금 52 헤르츠 DLC의 마지막을 끝내고 멍하니 화면을 바라보다가, 이 감정을 꼭 전하고 싶어 글을 남깁니다. 평소 저는 스스로에게 엄격하고, 늘 무언가 성과를 내며 ‘잘해야 한다’는 생각에 갇혀 스스로를 다그치며 살아왔습니다. 그런데 이 게임을 플레이하는 동안만큼은 그 무거운 짐을 내려놓을 수 있었고, 주인공과 연희의 처절하면서도 아름다운 삶이 너무 좋았습니다.
DLC를 시작하고 초반부분에 의사가 연희의 병세가 점차 악화되어가고 있다고 말했을때, 연희의 시한부 선고는 게임하는 내내 속이 답답하더라구요. 이후 주인공이 불법 수술을 감수하면서까지 연희를 살리려 했던 그 고통스러운 과정은, 진실된 사랑이 줄 수 있는 가장 숭고하고 지독한 희생이라고 생각합니다.
특히 영상 속에서도 강조되었던 연출, 주인공이 시간과 장소조차 혼동하는 장면, 그리고 연희가 뒤에 있는 줄도 모른 채 불법수술 이야기를 할때의 그 서늘한 긴장감은 연출적으로도 완벽했던거같습니다. 이후 연희가 주인공의 고통을 차마 볼 수 없어 떠나야만 했던 그 선택 역시, 연희또한 주인공을 너무 사랑하기에 내릴 수밖에 없었던 잔인한 결론이라 더 마음이 아팠습니다.
무엇보다 저를 가장 울렸던 대목은 혼수상태에 빠진 주인공이 꿈속의 '만경도'에서 어린 시절의 자신과 마주하는 장면이었습니다. 몇년 전, 만화가라는 꿈을 위해 달려왔지만 별다른 성과를 내지도 못하고 인생이 뜻대로 흘러 가지 않아서 죽으려 했던 주인공의 모습은, 늘 완벽을 강요받으며 지쳐있던 저의 모습과 겹쳐 보였습니다.
그곳에서 어린 주인공이 건넨 ‘작은 불씨’에 대한 이야기는 이 게임이 저에게 준 가장 큰 선물이었습니다.
"작은 불씨도 언젠간 꺼지기 마련이지만, 언제든지 숨을 불어넣으면 다시 커질 수 있어."
이 대사가 정말 와닿더라구요. 당장 눈에 보이는 성과가 없다고 해서 제 삶이 실패한 것이 아니며, 잠시 꺼져가는 듯 보여도 제 안의 불씨는 여전히 살아있다는 것을요.
이후 주인공이 성공적으로 만화를 연재하게 되고 행복해진 두 사람의 뒷모습을 보며 비로소 참았던 숨을 크게 내쉴 수 있었습니다. 제작자님이 이 DLC를 통해 전달하고자 했던 메시지는 단순히 ‘사랑은 위대하다’가 아니라, ‘우리 모두는 각자의 고통 속에서도 다시 숨을 불어넣을 가치가 있는 존재들이다’라는 격려가 아니었을까요.(감히 그렇게 예상을 해봅니다;;ㅎㅎ) 이토록 깊은 여운과 위로를 주는 작품을 세상에 내어주셔서 진심으로 감사합니다. 제작자님이 밤잠을 설치며 스크립트를 쓰고 연출을 고민하셨을 그 모든 시간들이 저라는 한 유저에게는 구원과도 같은 경험이 되었습니다. 52 헤르츠의 주파수가 마침내 누군가에게 닿아 공명했음을, 그리고 그 파동이 저를 움직일 수 있게했음을 꼭 알려드리고 싶었습니다.
ps) 근 1년간 미연시를 안했었는데 52헤르츠는 뭔가 끌리더라구요, 본편도 정말 재밌게 했었고, 그 끝나고 나서의 엔딩곡이 참.. 먹먹해지고 아직도 생각나는거 같습니다. dlc는 아쉽게도 엔딩크레딧이 없었다는게 그거 하나빼곤 정말 다 좋았습니다. 좋은 경험 할 수 있게해주셔서 감사합니다. 짧지만 정말 강력한 한방이였던거 같네요. 항상 응원하겠습니다. 그리고 다음작품이 있다면 애들좀 아프게 하지마세요ㅠㅠ
