I genuinely enjoy Epic Seven, and I’ve always been happy to support the developers by spending money here and there. When the devs make a bad balance change or introduce something I don’t entirely agree with, I can usually brush it off after some posting some criticism. Mistakes happen, and that's just part of game development and live-service games, hell I can even tolerate some things clearly motivated by blatant greed. But this Epic Points system? This hits way differently. Honestly, it feels personal, and I feel unexpectedly angry finding out how it actually works. I've never known about it if it did exist in some form before and I only recently found out about it, but that is beside the point.
I just checked my Epic Points history. I spent about $50 last week. Because of the 15-day holding period, I don't even have the points yet. And when I finally do get them, I have a grand total of about $2.50 to look forward to saving on my next purchase.
But the tiny discount isn't what makes me mad. It’s the expiration dates.
If there had been no expiration date, this genuinely would have been a cool feature. There would be nothing negative about it—just a nice little loyalty bonus that casual spenders could build up over time, and even whales could benefit from. But by slapping a countdown timer on these points, it completely stops being a "reward." It’s just straight-up mental blackmail. It's exactly the kind of mind games that caused and is still causing countries all over the world to create laws to regulate loot boxes.
It is incredibly predatory. You make us wait over two weeks for the points to clear and then start a timer to prey on basic human instincts. It's designed so our brains panic about "losing" that $2.50, tricking us into spending another $50 or $100 just so the points don't go to waste. It’s a calculated, immoral little game designed to force a perpetual spending loop.
I’d rather you never bothered releasing this in this state at all. I would rather you just kept the money we gave you and focus on creating new and engaging Guild-Based PvE (Like Ancient Inheritance) content or ... anything else! This whole system just rips the mask off and makes it feel like management simply sees us as cash cows to be roped in and drained at a very personal cost to us.
I love the art, the story, and the gameplay of E7, but this kind of monetization strategy is insulting to your player base. Please, if you actually want to reward players who support you and still encourage us to spend more money without engaging in this sort of psychological manipulation, remove the expiration dates entirely.
