Starting the June development log

Hello. I am a developer who unintentionally lied and has an unhealthy nickname.
I said this when I posted the development log last month.
"The development log for May is the largest ever."
Yes, somehow the June development log surpassed May's.
Instead, I think July will be simple and August will be non-existent.

I'm writing a development log because there's more to develop, but the work is nearing its end.

Then, let’s start today with a recommended song.

<span class="fr-mk" style="display: none;"> </span><span class="fr-mk" style="display: none;"> </span><span class="fr-mk" style="display: none;"> </span>

What the heck is this song, ...
No rules,,,

Progress

Today we're going to run a bit from the beginning.
Since I posted the last development log, I've worked on about 300 more cutscenes.

As of now, I think you can consider that I've done about 60% of the illustration.
There are between 700 and 800 illustrations, including cutscenes, CG, SD CG, standing, background, etc.
I'm consistently posting the rough progress of my work on X (formerly Twitter).
So in today's progress corner, we'll be unraveling some cutscenes.
This is the first cutscene that was uploaded to X. If you have been reading the development logs regularly, you will probably be familiar with it.
This is a cutscene of Somi that I uploaded before.
Since then, I've been uploading my work consistently to report on my progress, even if it's just a little bit.
Oh, of course, I didn't upload anything important.

Next is the cutscene that was uploaded to X.

Some of you may have noticed, but the cutscene shown here is from the part that corresponds to the original DEMO.
Compared to the existing DEMO, 100 more illustrations have been added.

So, I recommend that those who played the DEMO play from the beginning if possible.
There are some heroines whose character traits have changed a bit, and there are many different dialogues as the story's details change.

Actually, it's been a year and a half since I uploaded the DEMO, so there are probably fewer people who remember the content...
Yeah, sorry. Sob sob.

This cutscene is one that explains the details of [Hospital x Life].
Those of you with a keen eye might have noticed that each heroine is different.

The correct answer is... I'll reveal it 6 lines below.

.

.

.

.

.

.

Yes, each heroine has different nails.

Mina is pretty and takes care of herself
Somi has very long fingernails.
Because barley is difficult to cut, it is cut at a right angle.
The millet is in a state of being soaked in honeysuckle water.
Although it has not been made public,
Seju cuts his fingernails very short for hygiene reasons.
Isul has black lines on her nails due to health problems.

These little details... they're not that important, but I think some of you might enjoy them.
Please pay attention to the small details in the cutscenes.

The last cutscene I uploaded was the first day of the renewed school.
You will notice new friends you see for the first time.

These are the newly designed extra friends.
If you add in the previously revealed extra characters listed below, there are a whopping 12 extras, all standing.

There are some extras that I didn't upload because I don't have pictures right now, and if you include the extras that I didn't upload because their very existence is a spoiler,
Almost all characters that have dialogue in the game have illustrations.

I don't know if it's just me though.
The extras seem prettier than the heroine,,,?

Oh, this won't do.
I didn't want to be a production company that makes a mess of non-strategic characters, sob sob.

If I only had money in billions, I wouldn't be able to make all the characters' routes. Yes.
I die before money.

.

.

.

Actually, I feel a bit sorry for showing you so many pictures and saying this,,,
Although it's not confirmed yet,,,I think I should tell you,,,
I calculated the production end date for Hospital X Life to some extent.
It ends in August. Yes, it ends in August! Wow!
But that's, that's, that's, the end of August.
The game needs to be reviewed before it can be released.
So, I'm really trying my best, but I don't know what will really happen, so I'm telling you this in advance.
It seems that the inspection will take at least a week, and if there are any issues with the water level, the schedule may be delayed by up to two weeks.

End recording

As of June 4th, the recording of Hospital x Life has ended.
It's all thanks to everyone who supported me and spread the word about hospital x life that I was able to record like this.
And to my sponsors, thank you so much. I could never have done it alone.
Thank you for trusting and supporting me even though I am a developer with nothing.
We will definitely show you the results so that you can repay us.
Lastly, I would like to thank Studio Musicum for their help with the recording.
There were so many things I owe you. From the goods to the recording... it's hard to express it all in words.
Since I'm a serious idiot, I don't notice when the sound quality breaks down or anything like that, so using a recording studio was not a choice but a necessity.
But after experiencing it once, it was so good that I felt like it wasn't a must from the beginning. It was great.

Let me pick out a few things that impressed me while personally recording.

1. Bosong-i, voiced by Chae-rim
2. When will Mina and Somi fight each other?
3. Virtually all recording processes

no see.

He, Bosong-i, yes, Bosong-i herself came. To be exact, she exceeded my expectations a little.
I wanted to eat twice as much honey chestnuts as I expected.

Second, I can't say everything because it's a spoiler for the story,,,
Mina and Somi's showdown is, yes, that's right. I think the question I hear the most is when are you going to film School Days?
The last one was just that it was a precious recording experience for the first time.
Actually, there are quite a few lessons learned, so if there is a next work...? I think it will be helpful.

And there are some characters that we recorded more than the planned recording time.
But since this leaves the voice in an ambiguous state, I think this will probably be resolved through some kind of route later.
I'm thinking about it.

And I have something to tell you as I record.

As our backers may know, the opening song is also nearing completion.
I'd like to show it to others, but please wait a little bit until it's finished!

When it's finished, it will probably be uploaded first on vocalist Lee Ro-eun's YouTube channel.
I have to finish making the opening video and upload it, so it's very late.
Instead, we will show you the long-awaited development team.

Oh my, where can you not see this?
I hope you are satisfied with the valuable information I have provided.

Standing illustration revealed

Here is the standing illustration of the always-present rest corner.

Today's main characters are Bori and Seju.
If we do this, we won't have anything to reveal in July, but we originally didn't have anything to reveal in July. Yes.
If you just add up all the illustrations I've released, there's more than enough to cover one minor,,,
The reason it was okay though is because even if I reveal about 50 pictures, it only represents 5% of the total illustrations.
If you just add up all the illustrations, it comes to nearly 700!
I think it will take first place in terms of single-day sales in Korea.
But there is such a thing as moderation, and if we reveal more, it seems like it will harm the user's immersion.
The next development log will be really minimalistic.

So, Bori and Seju were released as a set.

Please save some barley. This is a sad character who only received 1 vote out of 35 in the Tumblbug patron popularity vote...
There may be some sponsors who say that it's not enough votes, but I put that one vote in as a sympathy vote. Yes.
It will be interesting to see how high it goes in the post-launch vote.

On the contrary, I didn't know Seju would be this strong.
I think the black-haired older sister has some bonus points.

Actually, I like it too.
Especially the black hair hime cut.

If you ask me who my favorite thing about hospital life is,
I love everyone equally, Somiyo.

Developers must be fair.

Hospital x Life, 4 years of history

June 19th marked the 4th anniversary of the start of development of Hospital x Life.
No, I can't believe it's been four years.

My early 20s are all here! I'm 25 this year!
oh my god.

I also came here to look for some information as it is my 4th anniversary.
What surprised me too was that the original name of this game wasn't 'Hospital Life'.
It was nothing short of 'hospital life'.

So you shouldn't trust my memory. I accidentally made a mistake in the interview.

Okay, let's take a quick look at history.

I'm not sure if it looks like the original remains.
But looking back, I think I would have lost money if I had sold it like that.
The quality is incredible.

And I also brought the initial settings of the heroines.

This is the first setting for the original trio.
I think you can all see who this is.

From the left, they are ‘Mina’, ‘Somi’, and ‘Sora’.
Some of you may be wondering why there is no dew on the far right... Here is the attached photo for that reason.

This is a rough CG of the early dew. If you look at it, you can see a strange Se-ju atmosphere.

This file is broken so I couldn't get it, but the original dew, 'Sora', is the original character of 'Iseul' and 'Seju'.
This character's design and character were split into two, becoming 'Iseul' and 'Seju'.

Of course, the familiar appearance is almost completely maintained.
In some ways, you could say he's the character who hasn't changed the most.

Then, I'll show you the other two, starting with Mina.

Starting from the design I first showed you, it went through a process of change like this.

This person looks similar, but is completely different.
The hairpin stayed on for a while and eventually disappeared.

If you ask why I wore a choker around my neck, it was better that way.

Who are the other two people in the last photo?
The one on the left will be explained shortly, so let's skip it. The one on the right is a heroine named 'Marie'.

This is a junior heroine who no longer exists.
The reason is that the main characters' ages have changed to first grade.

She is a heroine of the sports club + junior + Messagaki series.
If you ask why I didn't include this even if it meant changing the story, I, I don't know.

It was because I was sleep deprived. Yes.

Personally, I find this design regrettable, and I believe that the heroine will be 100% recycled in the sequel.

And the person on the left is exactly that.

This is Somi.

Do you see this long Somiya Chronicles?
Somi is the heroine whose design has officially changed the most.

5th Somi
13th Somi

Among them, this is the 13th Somi's design.
Honestly, the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 13th Somis are pretty too, so I don't know why they weren't used as is.

I'm sure I was sleep deprived in the past.

Personality...was sharper than Somi now. Probably.
No, but it's really pretty. Why did you abandon this design?

In this way, Somi went through countless revisions and settled on her current design, which was around the time she was in her 20s.

This is what I mean.

I can't tell you the entire 4-year history, and many parts of the files are missing, so I'll just summarize it briefly.

The history of sorghum, seju, and barley, as well as the story of Mina, Somi, and Isul, which has not been fully explained
Look forward to the upcoming DLC! Digital Fanbook!!

Character Card

There's nothing to show you in July...an overwhelming void...!
I said I was going minimalistic, but if you just give me some real eggplant salad, it's kind of like that.
I brought it with me to somehow prepare the Kim Ja-ban.

Other than Kimchi side dishes, meat side dishes... I think it'll be difficult now.
I also wanted to bring a development log full of dopamine every day, but it's really unfortunate.

Next month, character cards for Susu, Isul, Barley, and Seju will be released.

TMI

The protagonist of this development log cover is Somi.
He's wearing it. Please don't cut it.

As previously announced, Mina will be gracing the final cover of the development log.
All the heroines take turns decorating the cover... isn't this kind of romance nice?

As is typical of TMI, I will also reveal some minor in-game details.
That's right, the characters' ages.

◆Character Ages

Elementary school student: Eunbangul (young patient)

Middle school students: Bosong, Ok-Ogok (Susu's younger sister)

High School Students: Main Character, Ansomi, Hamina, Oksusu, Chabori, Goguma, Student Extra 3

20s: Baek Se-ju, Han Yi-seul, Ahn Ho-mi (Somi's older sister), Onui (convenience store part-timer)

30s: Bae Chun-ja, Gal Dae-hee, Bok So-su (Teacher 3)

40s: Isaac (Barley's mother), Yeonbunhong (main character's aunt)

50s: Hannabong (Teacher 2)

Surprisingly, the game has characters of various ages, Hospital x Life.
Of course, it doesn't really show on the outside. How could you think that Galdaehee is older than Seju and Isul,,,

There are a lot of these kinds of minor TMIs in the background.
A convenience store part-timer is someone who graduated from the Department of Philosophy and is working part-time at a convenience store using his major.
Bori's mom and dad are Tag: Oneshota is included,,,

I'd like to work all this out as an after-project, but I'm not sure how much I'll be able to do since I'm graduating soon.
As long as I have the means, I plan to continue to care for HospitalxLife even after its release. Regardless of its success or failure.

Since I made it myself anyway, it doesn't cost any more money to do anything.

This time, the scenario program? was changed to 'novella'.
It also has an auto-correct feature, which is really a new world. I wish I had used it a long time ago.

Perhaps...the next short story collection, 'Mina Board Game', will be written as a novella.
In fact, I have finished my exams while writing the short story 'Somi Eve', which is limited to sponsors, as a novella.
'Somi Eve' decided to write a short story about a character who won first place in the Tumblbug supporter vote.
Somi confidently took first place. It was a whopping 10 times the difference from last place Bori.
Ah... Barley...

Oh, that's right. Our composer, ChestnutWhale, participated in this Blue Archive rearrangement.
I'm pretty good at buying at low prices. Wow.
So everyone, please come and save me on the 11th floor of Kakao. It's so cold here and I'm hungry.

So, whenever I have time, I send a Deco to the Great Yellow Whale, who is shoulder to shoulder with Sangnoksu and Mizukiyo.
I feel a bit sorry that you have become resistant to it now, perhaps because you keep passing it around.
This time I was really busy so I couldn't watch the anime.
To be exact, I just keep watching GQUUUUUUX and SUMMER POCKETS. They're both really healing.

If I watch both of them...I think I'll probably watch "The Young Pig Doesn't Dream of Senior Bunny Girl".
I've wanted to see it for a long time, but the angles didn't come out well. I think I'll watch it now.
Oh, next quarter is so flashy I might not watch it.

Coming out next quarter
'Sakamoto Days 2 Cool', 'Granblue Season 2', 'The Three Mikadono Sisters Are Surprisingly Easy', 'Dandadan Season 2', 'The Fainting Hero and the Assassin Princess', 'Bisque Doll Season 2', 'The Fragrant Flower Blooms Manfully', 'Watari-kun's XX is on the Verge of Collapse', 'See You Tomorrow at the Food Court', 'Fans Season 2', 'Kari-kun Infinite', 'Chainsaw Man Lege the Movie'
You must see it!!

Personally, I surprisingly like the 'Three Mikadono Sisters'.
When I first saw it, I was like, "What on earth did they do with the heroine's design?" But after looking at it for reference, it was really interesting.

Lastly... This development log is truly the most lengthy ever, so I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

Well, that's it for this month's development log! See you next time!

『A story of commotion with cute witches』

※ This review was written based on the early access version.

💎 First impressions of the game

First of all, how much do you know about the genre called 'roguelike' ?

You've probably heard the term "roguelike" a lot, but not many people actually know much about this genre.

I also didn't know why it was named that way until I looked it up separately.

According to 《Rogue》, which is the origin of the genre name, 1) there is a random element , 2) the player's choices are irreversible , and

3) The roguelike genre is characterized by minimizing the benefits of repeated play . (There are other characteristics, but let's skip them here.)

It is not difficult to produce compared to the amount of content, and it is also famous as a genre with a large fan base.

Some famous indie games include the Hades (Hades I, II) series, Enter the Gungeon, and Skul.

That's why most of the recently released indie games are of the roguelike genre.

But with so many roguelike indie games coming out, it's becoming harder to get noticed.

This is especially true as there are already many games known as masterpieces.

Meanwhile, in March, a domestic indie game developer called Team Tapas introduced a new roguelike game.

The Witch's Garden is an action roguelike game that tells the story of witches who create, decorate, and live in their own world.

⌚ Gameplay

『It's neat and fun! If only the title was "Witch" 』

<You can feel the game atmosphere created by Team Tapas through the drawing style>

The game we're introducing today, "The Witch's Garden," is Team Tapas' third title .

Drifting Girl and Warrior Restaurant were both idle mobile games, and I personally remember enjoying Warrior Restaurant quite a bit.

The overall theme of the two games is quite similar: they are both idle games that can be enjoyed without the burden of paying.

All of them have a fairly slow tempo so it takes time to get going, but they have received a lot of favorable reviews because there are no ads or in-game elements.

However, unlike the previous two games, 『The Witch's Garden』 was released as an indie game for PC.

Because of this, the perspective or viewpoint from which the game is evaluated has completely changed to fit the fact that it is an indie game for PC .

<Unlike the previous two games, the difficulty level was quite high>

First of all, since it is an action roguelike , let's first take a look at the combat-related systems.

Unlike the previous two games, it has a fairly high difficulty level for casual enjoyment.

This can also be confirmed on the difficulty selection screen that appears when you first start the game.

In the descriptions for each of the Story/Normal/Hard difficulties, there is a section that says ' Immunity to all damage for a short time while dashing '.

"

It's not too spicy though

A game with some degree of challenge.

"

Normally, no matter how difficult it is, dash invincibility is included as a basic function of the system.

If you play this game on Hard difficulty, you'll need to be quite careful because your dash invincibility will be gone.

However, if you think the difficulty is a bit too difficult, you can freely change the difficulty at the starting point at any time, so you don't have to worry.

I really liked how you could easily see when a new feature was unlocked at a stronghold via an exclamation point bubble.

<You are given two chances to choose one of the three skills. After choosing, you can proceed with your desired key settings.>

There are a total of 4 skills related to combat.

There is a scissor skill for basic attacks, a dash skill for evasion, and two skills that can be freely selected .

The two free skills allow you to specify the skill you want through two selections, but

You have to choose the right combination for the situation, as there is no guarantee that you will always get the skill you want. (Or you can just get lucky.)

You can skip skill selection if you want, but it is not recommended unless you are an experienced player.

At first, you can just look at the performance of the skill itself, but as you progress through the game to a certain extent, the 'synergy' system is unlocked.

You can enjoy playing by trying out various combinations of attributes attached to skills.

I'll talk more about synergy later.

< You must carefully decide which is more advantageous between passive enhancement (left) and skill effect enhancement (right) >

<Let's check the map to choose what to strengthen in advance>

There are two main ways to strengthen your character: magical strengthening and passive strengthening.

Magic strengthening is a method of strengthening the effect of the skill itself , such as increasing damage or granting additional effects.

Passives are a way to enhance the effects of basic attacks or overall skills, such as reducing the cooldown of all skills or increasing the damage of scissor attacks.

"

If you are focusing on one skill, strengthen your magic

If not, I recommend passive enhancement

"

There may be some variables depending on the situation, but if you are a player who mainly uses a specific skill, use magic strengthening.

If you play primarily using basic attacks like Scissors or using a variety of skills, it is advantageous to choose passive enhancement.

However, due to the nature of the roguelike genre, you cannot expect the desired effect every time, so you must choose a strengthening effect that suits the situation.

However, since I don't really care about balance in single games, I actually like the fact that I can use a variety of skills.

<You can use gold to strengthen your abilities such as health and basic attack power>

In addition, you can also strengthen your abilities through the gold you collect until the character dies or you clear the stage.

Not only does it increase stamina, but it also increases the attack speed of scissoring,

Because it also has additional effects, such as reducing the cooldown of the dash or increasing the number of charges.

The difference in perceived difficulty depending on the level of basic ability enhancement is quite large .

It is noticeable that repeated play is semi-mandatory unless it is a penalty play that allows you to play without reinforcement.

However, this point can be understood as a characteristic of the genre rather than a shortcoming of the game itself.

<The real fun of the game starts when the synergy system is unlocked>

Now, shall we talk about synergy?

Once you clear the first stage of the first chapter, the synergy system is unlocked.

If you paid attention when you first started playing, you would have seen that skills and passives have icons attached to them.

Apart from the skill's effect, various effects are added depending on the synergy tag attached to each skill or passive.

"

Depending on the selected synergy tag

Various strengthening effects

"

For example, when strengthening the vampire skill, if you choose the 'burning' strengthening effect or the 'crow' strengthening effect,

It can grant a burning effect equal to a portion of the blood sucking damage, or it can summon a crow while the blood sucking hits.

If you strengthen the Burn tag 6 times here, some of the excess will be burned immediately, or

Powering up the Crow Tag 6 times will grant effects such as firing a projectile that deals increased damage when the Crow is killed.

And if you strengthen both the crow tag 8 and the burning tag 8, it will have the same effect as the crow burning the enemy's health by a portion of the damage done.

It also has a dual synergy effect, so combining them is quite fun.

<You can enjoy the small stories of various witches that the main character invites>

The combat part was well-received, but the story part was somewhat disappointing.

As the title suggests, The Witch's Garden, there is an interesting keyword called 'witch', but there is not much of a story about the witch itself .

As of Chapter 3, the main story of the chapter is the story of the tea party between the main character, Sil, and other witches.

There are quite a few interesting storylines that can be developed, such as what kind of being is a witch and what witches can do.

Nevertheless, it is regrettable that the story is summarized in one short keyword, 'tea party commotion among witches' .

However, since it has been announced that there will be some reinforcement of the game content after the official release, we expect the story to be reinforced as well.

<Various patterns shown for each stage and boss>

There are also some disappointing aspects to the stage boss's pattern.

I was able to fully enjoy the cute character design and the fun of the battle itself, but

Unlike Chapter 1, you must enjoy the same stage bosses in the same order in Chapter 2 and Chapter 3.

It's a shame that it leads to the thought, 'Isn't the game too repetitive?'

The patterns you see when fighting stage bosses are also connected in a similar way.

Chapter 1 is fun to watch because it is the first time you see this pattern, but

The boss pattern of Chapter 2 is composed of the connection between the patterns of Chapter 1 and Chapter 2, and the boss pattern of Chapter 3 is composed of the connection between the patterns of Chapter 1 and Chapter 3, etc.

Only the stage boss's health increased, but the boss pattern itself felt like a lot of repetition .

This point, as mentioned above, is connected to the fact that you have to enjoy all the stage bosses in the same order, which I felt was very disappointing.

📌 Game Review

『 Gameplay to look forward to after Early Access 』

The roguelike genre is often underrated because of its repetitive nature.

However, there are quite a few people who are fascinated by the depth of the game that comes from these characteristics.

The roguelike genre is highly accessible to game developers, but it is a genre that players have very different opinions about.

That's why I was worried that I might look at the game from a somewhat biased perspective.

Enjoy various skills and synergies, and various elements that create reasons for continuous gameplay.

Despite being Early Access, I was quite satisfied with the gameplay.

However, it seems that there is still room for improvement in various areas such as story, content, and balance patches.

The developer is also aware of this and is consistently sharing update plans through community announcements (link) .

So, personally, I'm looking forward to seeing how much fun I'll be having with it when it's officially released!

The action roguelike game that has its official release date even more anticipated is 『The Witch's Garden』 !

Rift Riff is a tower defense game where you have to choose which towers to place in the right places to defend against oncoming monsters.

You can only build towers in places called 'rifts', so the difficulty level increases.

It's not that it's too difficult... I just do it.

When monsters surge in, either head straight for the extractor (main tower) or attack a nearby tower.

Overlooked? This means the monster won't attack.

Like this. How many daily doses!?

To build a tower, you need 'sap'. You can obtain the juice by killing enemies or from the flowers that bloom around after a wave.

If the main tower (extractor) is destroyed, you can start over from the last wave.

The upper and lower main towers have different shapes. The upper one has never been destroyed, while the lower one was destroyed once and then restored.

That means the extractor has two lives.

When you restart from the last stage, one of these lives will be removed.

When you finish a wave, several polyhedrons will drop, called prisms, which you can use to open towers or allies.

To open a new location, it says that a specific tower is required. A sort of barrier to entry.

No, just take it to mean that having that tower will make it easier to conquer the next location.

You can build defensive towers on fertile land and build attack towers around them to destroy enemies.

Like this.

Even if a huge number of monsters swarm, the risk is reduced as the monsters disperse or do not go straight to the extractor.

This is the most entertaining(?) scene I've ever seen.

I get thrown almost every time I dimensionally jump.

He's not kind to the main character. Haha

Come back and build up your specs... Ah, sweetheart!

Sob sob..

I tried heading it, but I couldn't even conquer it without having the specs.

It took me 3 hours to open all the places. I think it will take me that much more time to open all the places.

That means it's a game with good value for money! ^^

Because I bought it for 6,000 won with the launch discount. (Price without discount: 7,900 won)

People often say that it's a mix of snake-like and rhythm game, but personally, I didn't feel like it was snake-like.

It is true that you have to avoid enemies coming from all sides and attack, but the player has to press the attack button to fill up the attack gauge and attack.

Personally, I don't like snake-like games because I feel like it's just a simple way to avoid being hit, and it lacks the feel of impact, but this game has a sense of impact (maybe because it's played with a pad).

So if you ask me what the game is like, I would say it's fun.

As it is a rhythm game, the music is good and the hitting sensation is great, so it was fun to press the buttons.

However, I'm not sure if it's because I'm still playing, but it was disappointing that I had to start from the beginning of the chapter to listen to the song I wanted.

Other than that, everything was fine.
