들어가기 앞서

한 게임에 2번 놀란 감고양이입니다. 이번에 소개할 게임은 '텔레포트 마스터(Teleport Master)'라고 하는 인디, 캐주얼 게임입니다. 이 게임을 알게 되고 플레이하게 된 계기는 스토브 인디에서 '슬기로운 데모생활'이라는 프로그램이 있는데 그곳에서 데모 버전을 처음 접했고 최근 해당 게임이 정식 출시했다는 사실을 알게 되어 구매하고 플레이하게 되었습니다.(2025년 03월 17일에 정식 출시했더군요.)

그럼 본격적으로 제 생각을 말하기 앞서 이 게임의 플레이 영상 먼저 보여드리도록 하겠습니다.

리뷰

우선 이 게임의 스토리를 요약하자면 다음과 같습니다.
「은혜를 모르는 인간 놈들이 세계수를 자신 마음대로 다루려다 세계수를 죽여버려서 세상이 멸망할 위험에 빠졌다는 사실을 알게 된 주인공이 텔레포트 능력이 있는 주머니 안에 들어가 세상을 구하러 간다.」
라는 게 이 게임의 스토리였습니다. 겉으로 보이는 그래픽이나 분위기 등과 달리 스토리가 생각보다 무거웠으며 행동에 따라 엔딩이 2개로 나누어져 있었습니다.(얼핏 보면 해피엔딩처럼 보이는 것도 있지만... 두 엔딩 모두 배드 엔딩이라 생각되었습니다.)

게임의 조작은 매우 간단했습니다. 방향키 오른쪽 버튼으로 텔레포트, R로 재시작, 마우스 클릭으로 시스템 설정 정도로 눌러야 할 것이 적었으니까요.
다만 숙련도가 매우 요구되었습니다. 거의 대부분의 사물에 닿으면(문, 책, 나무, 꽃, 풀, 불, 양, 늑대, 사람 등 심지어 플레이어를 빠른 속도로 쫓아오거나 가만히 있으면 떨어지는 물건도 존재합니다.) 마지막으로 저장된 곳에서 다시 시작해야 했고 텔레포트를 오랫동안 누르면 누른 시간에 비례하여 이동거리가 빨라지다 보니 원하는 곳(안전한 곳)으로 텔레포트 하려면 상당한 숙련도가 필요했습니다.
게임의 진행 방식도 간단했습니다. 기본적으론 중간중간 세이브를 찍으며 최종 목적지로 향하면 되는데, 이때 게임오버 시 어떻게 게임오버되었는지 확인하고 동시에 이 세계에서 어떤 일이 일어났는지, 즉 스토리를 확인하는 형식으로 되어있었으니까요.

그래픽은 2D 도트 그래픽으로 가벼운 게임성과 어울리는 아기자기한 느낌으로 도트가 찍혀있었습니다.(그렇기에 스토리를 보고 더 충격받은 것 같습니다.)
사운드의 경우 효과음은 개수는 많지 않지만 필요한 곳에 다 있어 부족하다는 느낌은 들지 않았으며, BGM의 경우 별도로 다운로드해 반복적으로 듣고 싶은 BGM이 있을 정도로 훌륭했습니다.

100% 수집하려다 보니 버그가 좋든 싫든 보이더군요.

버그는 아쉽게 존재했습니다. 너무 빠르게 재시작을 누르면 BGM이 재생 안되는 버그, 화면 설정이 재시작 시 유지 안되는 버그 등이 존재했으며 한두 번 정도는 괜찮지만 반복적으로 나타나다 보니 조금은 짜증 나는 버그들이 존재했습니다.
장점과 아쉬운 점으로 정리하기 전, 잡담을 좀 하자면... 다행이라는 생각이 들었습니다. 슬기로운 데모생활 당시 설문조사항목을 보니 해당 게임을 다른 병맛 발암 게임(내가 하긴 싫고 남이 고통받는 모습을 보는 게임 ALT F4, 점프킹 등)처럼 어렵게 만들려고 하는듯한 항목이 존재하다 보니 이 게임의 재미인 '어떻게 게임오버되었는지 확인하는 재미'가 사라질까 걱정됐었는데 다행히 이 게임은 이 게임의 재미를 간직한 체 출시되었으니까요.(자신의 장점이 뭔지 모르고 장점을 제거한 체 출시하는 게임들이 은근 많습니다.) 그렇기에 가벼운 마음으로 즐겁게? 게임오버 장면을 보며 엔딩을 보았을 때 '설정이 아니라 진짜 제대로된 스토리가 있어?'라며 놀랐습니다.

-장점-
1. 스토리
-위에서 말했다시피 처음에는 '데모 버전에서 예상했던 대로 어떻게 게임오버되었는지 구경하는 게임이구나', '가벼운 느낌으로 하면 되겠구나'라고 생각하며 플레이했는데 마지막 엔딩에서 보여준 연출과 무슨 일이 있었는지 보여주는 만화들을 보며 충격받았습니다.
-물론 단순 스토리만 놓고 보면 이제는 좀 흔한 느낌의 스토리였지만 계속 밝은 분위기만 보여주다가 갑자기 상상도 못한 어두운 이야기를 들이밀고 그동안 했던 고생에 대한 이유를 제시하다 보니 매우 큰 장점이라 생각되었습니다.

2. 게임성[난이도, 재미]
-이 게임의 주된 목적은 정해진 위치까지 도달하는 것이며 그 과정에서 어떻게 게임오버되었는지 확인하는 재미로 하는 게임인데, 만약 어렵기만 하고 게임오버 시 나오는 게 그다지 흥미롭지 않았다면 짜증만 났겠지만, 이 게임은 적절한 세이브포인트 위치와 적절한 난이도 그리고 다양한 BGM과 흥미로운 게임오버 컷신이 같이 있어 게임오버를 즐길 수 있는 재밌는 게임이었습니다.(게임오버 컷신과 별도로 어떤 사건이 있었는지 보는 재미도 있었고요.)
-그와 별개로 게임 내에서 여러 모드(부활 횟수를 제한하는 모드, 텔레포트 횟수를 제한 모드 등)이 존재하여 어려운 것을 도전하는 분들도 충분히 즐길만하다고 생각되었습니다.(저는 스트레스받으면서 게임하긴 싫어서 패스...)

-아쉬운 점 -

똑같아 보이는 NPC임에도 주는 스토리 컷신이 다 달랐습니다.

1. 스토리 컷신 주는 대상
-스토리 컷신을 주는 대상 중 대부분이 같은 도트를 돌려쓰고 있었습니다.
-이전 구간까지는 똑같은 대상의 경우(양, 나무, 돌, 사다리, 낭떠러지 등) 똑같은 컷신이 재생된다는 사실을 반강제로 알려주기에 똑같이 생긴 NPC들의 경우도 똑같은 것을 보여준다고 생각하여넘어갔었는데 추후 확인해 보니 똑같이 생겼더라도 다른 이야기를 보여주었기에 배신감? 억울함? 을 느꼈습니다.
-그렇기에 '스토리 컷신을 주는 대상은 조금씩이라도 모습이 달랐으면 좋았을 텐데'라는 아쉬움이 있었습니다.

마무리

마무리하겠습니다. 게임 재밌었습니다. 단순히 게임오버 시 보여주는 웃긴 장면을 보는 재미도 있었지만, 그 과정에서 밝혀지는 스토리를 보고 상당히 충격받았기에 더욱 재밌게 플레이했습니다.

팁을 하나 주자면 시작 지점에서 2.70초 ~ 2.80초 정도 텔레포트를 하면 엔딩 직전에 도착합니다.
