Honestly, it's super fun, but I'm not very sensitive so I don't really know what to give feedback on it, but I guess I need to find a way to make it worth playing for a long time?

It's a bit annoying when you die when you're surrounded by mobs.

Interview with Amateurgrammer, the developer of the comedy visual novel game "Gonggosonyeo"

*This is a series of interviews with indie game developers. The photos used in the interviews were provided by the creators through Discord, X (Twitter), email, etc., and the interviews were conducted by compiling honest interviews. We plan to continue to conduct interviews with game developers (both domestic and overseas), and if there are developers who would like to participate in the interview, please feel free to contact me through various methods such as leaving a comment on my profile or a post comment (email, Discord, SNS address, etc.).

Interview: Q (hashiruka48) / A (TEAM RESERVOIR DOGAMES) (Amateur Grammar)

Game Title:
Gong GO Girl
Stove Store: https://store.onstove.com/ko/games/100177

Genre: Visual Novel

Creator: TEAM RESERVOIR DOGAMES

Q. Hello. I'm very interested in TEAM RESERVOIR DOGAMES, a visual novel featuring cute Gonggo girls and a friendly dinosaur that doesn't need to hurt anyone. Please introduce Gonggo girls and TEAM RESERVOIR DOGAMES. (Game synopsis, characters, team name, team members, etc.)

A. Hello, I am Amateur Grammar, the developer of Reservoir Games, which developed Announcement Girl. Our team consists of three people: Unidentified Cat (artist), Kim Dong-gun (musician), and Amateur Grammar (developer). Announcement Girl is a comedy visual novel about four people living their school lives: the main character who entered Announcement High School, her two childhood friends, and a transfer student. The main characters are Yeon Ga-hee, Na Sera, Kim Pa-rang, and the main character. Except for the main character, these three sometimes transform into dinosaurs, but there is no real reason for that.

Q. The title of the game is quite impressive. Gong GO Girl. When I see the word Gonggo, I think of high schools like industrial high schools or commercial high schools. In particular, the game title is uniquely written in English, Gong GO Girl.

A. It's true that Gong Go Girl is an industrial high school, but it also has a hidden meaning of Dinosaur High School, so when I ran it through an English translator, it came out as Technical high school. I thought that shouldn't be done, so I was going to do Dino high school, but then I thought that wasn't hidden, so I just pronounced it as Gong Go Girl. I'm not sure if the meaning is correct.

Q. The team name TEAM RESERVOIR DOGAMES is also impressive. In particular, the team logo appears in the game trailer. Is it a dog? A robot? The logo itself is also funny.

A. Originally, since we were a group of people who had never been paid to develop music or draw before, we were going to call ourselves Team 404 or Team Amateur, but when we actually tried to do that, we couldn't come up with a clear picture. But since the game itself is a game with a lot of parodies, we named the team Reservoir Games after the movie Reservoir Dogs and drew a play dog on it to complete it. But that's actually a nonsensical word, so I hope you'll just say "haha" and move on.

Q. This is the first time I've seen a comedy visual novel with dinosaurs. There's also a parody of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and a Pump Arcade. Was it particularly difficult to make the game with Ren'Py? I'm also curious if you're considering profit and exploring the Steam and Stove markets.

A. I'm from the 90s, so there are many parts that I made so that people born in that era can relate to. I like sound novels, especially horror games, so I think I referenced those as much as possible. It's not that I dislike fairy tales with pretty characters, but it's because I don't know much about that genre of story. I think people who can write fairy tale stories in a jiffy are really amazing. People might say that fairy tale stories are all similar, but when you actually write them, you really have to think a lot. That's why I tried my best to make a game that people can laugh and play.

More than anything, I think it was because I told the artist to hurry up because I was short on time. The artist is much better than this. I feel like I'm being sarcastic because only pretty characters are like this. I know how to do basic programming, so I thought Ren'Py would be easy, but nothing is easy. However, there is a Ren'Py cafe called Bimo Cafe, and the people there were really kind and helpful. If it weren't for those people, I wouldn't have been able to finish it. I'd like to thank them.

And I'm thinking of selling it for 8,000 won on Steam and Stove, but I'm not sure if that's a reasonable price. And if it sells well, I want to keep the team and make another side of Gonggo Girls, but if it doesn't make money, it's basically disbanding the team, so we decided to split the profits.

Q. I can't help but talk about dinosaurs. I wonder what kind of dinosaurs will appear.

A. First, the Tyrannosaurus, Raptor, and Triceratops in the thumbnail will appear. Brachiosaurus and Therizinosaurus will appear briefly. First, since the game is not one where dinosaurs appear continuously, I would like to add more later if I get the chance. And I definitely plan to add Parasaurolophus later. Apachycephalosaurus will also appear briefly.

Q. It seems like the current language support is only for Korean, but I understand that the game uses AI to draw and such. Do you have any plans to add additional languages? For overseas users of Steam or Stove.

A. For the drawing, I only referred to the AI modeling, and for the BGM, the composer created it himself + AI music. These days, music comes out well. Anyway, I really want to release it in Japanese, but since it contains some wordplay, I wonder if it will be well translated into Japanese using AI. For now, I am looking for a way to include Japanese.

Q. 『Announcement Girl』 is a visual novel game. Is it a game over if you don't reach the ending? Or are there various game endings? I'd also like to know about the hidden elements, challenge CG, and other systems.

A. There is one main character's ending prepared, so there is room for additional content based on feedback requests from gamers. We ask for your various opinions. And there are about 10 game over endings that appear when you make a wrong choice. There are about 50 CGs and 70 CUTs, and you can view the CGs and CUTs you have seen once in the gallery.

Q. The game will finally be released in June 25. The main game and OST will be released. I would like to know about the game development period. I would also like to know if you have any experience making other games as a team before the game was released.

A. Announcement Girl started 3 years ago. Originally, we agreed to do it for 6 months and then not do it if it didn't work out, but we kept going because we felt it was a waste to do it. I didn't know it would take this long. I don't think the playtime is even close to 3 years... It's sad. And we tried to make a Unity game with a team, but it was at most 2 weeks. They all gave plausible reasons for not doing it. The fact that we finished the game this time is more amazing than amazing.

Q. Please tell us about the development period.

A. I remember that when I first started out, there was an illustrator and I, a developer, and we started out with just the two of us, but we thought we might need music! So we brought in a friend who was studying music. And we thought we might need a separate story, so we hired a story writer, and so four people started out. But the illustrator we were working with had to leave because he was already working, and the story writer left due to differences in opinions, and the illustrator we hired also left due to differences in opinions, and so only the music artist and I, the developer, were left. I think it was really hard to say, “Let’s split the income 1/N!”

At first, the money was okay, but in the end, if there's no money, it feels like volunteering for free... For a while, I couldn't really develop the game itself, and the story writer left so I had to write everything from scratch. And without an illustrator, it's practically impossible to do a visual novel, so I tried to find someone to do it, so I poked a few people who stream their drawings on Twitch and asked if they wanted to make a game. Thankfully, the illustrator, an unidentified cat, said he would do it, so I was able to complete the game. He is the biggest contributor to this game.

Q. Since the game took a long time to make, was it made entirely with personal funds without any separate Tumblbug or sponsorship?

A. Other people are getting support through things like Tumblbug, but I wondered if I could make something like that. Artists and musicians are all people who are doing it for free. They are all working part-time jobs while spending their savings. Except for me. Come to think of it, my friend who does music seems to have come this far just because of friendship.

Q. If you look at the current Stove Shop page, there are 31 challenges. Did you have any difficulties creating challenges for the game? Were you able to use the Stove Tool without any problems?

A. It wasn't easy to make a challenge. I had already put in the in-game dialogue that said, "I'll write it like this!" It felt a bit squeezing. I think the Stove tool itself is fine. There are some minor bugs, but they can be fixed by reinstalling or something. And the people working on the Stove Discord are kind and helpful. But the challenge is a bit... I wish there was a window that says it's been completed when you complete the challenge.

Q. Are the soundtrack titles parodies of titles you might encounter in the game?

A. Some songs are related, but almost all of them were decided by composer Kim Dong-gun. I think he just decided what he felt. I asked him to decide on the title because I had to upload the soundtrack. I think he had a hard time.

Q. Are there any plans to release a soundtrack for Stove?

A. I plan to release it on Stove too. Since that song is not an AI song, I think it came out in good quality in my case.

Q. The main game costs around 8,000 won. How much do you think the OST will cost?

A. The OST price is expected to be 2,500 won.

Q. The main game costs around 8,000 won and the OST costs around 2,500 won, so it would be around 10,500 won. How much do you plan on having a sale during the promotional period for those who purchase the game early in June?

A. I'm thinking of doing about 30%.

Q. This work is a gag visual novel game. It also has many challenges. You created the game and played it yourself. What do you think the game is fun to play? For those who are waiting for the game, please introduce some elements that you can be proud of.

A. I think the goal of this game is to make people laugh. If you can play this game while laughing, I think you've completely enjoyed the game. In Announcement Girl, there are quite a few parodies of scenes from old and new comics and games. Of course, there are quite a few dinosaur scenes. If there are scenes you don't know, I think it'll be fun to look them up. Oh, and I had fun.

Q. Lastly, is there anything you would like to say to the users who are waiting for the game?

A. I had a drink... It's okay if the game doesn't work out well. I hope you feel my sincerity. Thank you. I'm joking, but I posted that I'm releasing the game, and many people said that it looked fun. To be honest, I felt good. The game may be sloppy, but I hope you enjoy it. Thank you.

They say they plan to open funding through Tumblbug.
This time, the main character (player) is the owner of a ramen restaurant.
It's said to be a story about two part-time workers there.
It will be released by Stove in July.
They said they'll be able to demo it at Illustrator this week
For those who like Studio Tabi games, this time too
I recommend it!!!!
