Claire Obscure: I've been hearing a lot that the 33rd Expedition is 'a confirmed GOTY!'
I also think that it will definitely receive one of the GOTY 5, but you never know until you see the end of the game.
Let's take a quick look at what Claire Obscur's GOTY contenders are up for.
Even though GTA 6's release date has been pushed back to next year, if a meteor-level masterpiece suddenly comes out, I might not be able to accept it.
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past hasn't even won a GOTY yet.
Why? Because Baldur's Gate 3 came out in the same year.

I haven't tried it yet, but I think if it shows something more than It Takes Two, the result is set.
While playing the previous game, I thought, 'Wow, how can they make a sequel with such a burden?', but I'm also surprised that the sequel turned out so well.
That's how shocking It Takes Two was as a co-op game.
This one will probably get at least one too.
Of course, what's more important is what other works come out in 2025.
Metroid Prime 4 Beyond
These are the games that are scheduled to be released.
The Metroid series, an IP with a deep tradition, is scheduled to be announced along with the Switch 2 announcement.

I think it's because of the continuous click trick, the score is reset and there seems to have been a patch, but I played after the patch.

Full Motion Video, 줄여서 FMV라고 부르는 게임의 한 장르가 있습니다. 인터랙티브 무비, 비주얼 노벨 같은 장르에서도 FMV의 흔적을 쉽게 찾아볼 수 있는데요. 장르의 특징을 딱 한 줄로 줄이면 '배우가 촬영하거나 애니메이션을 게임에 직접적으로 넣은' 게임이라고 할 수 있습니다.
게임 중간에 스토리를 풀어나가기 위해 많은 게임들이 넣는 컷신과 비슷한 개념이 아닌가라고 생각할 수 있지만 FMV 장르에 포함되는 게임들은 그렇게 게임과 게임 사이를 이어붙이는 형태의 영상이 아닌 게임을 진행하는 것 자체가 한 편의 영상을 감상하는 것으로 이어지는 형태를 가지고 있습니다. 실시간으로 재생되는 영상에 게임의 요소가 얹어졌다고 생각하면 쉽게 이해할 수 있어요.
최초로 FMV의 개념을 도입했던 게임이라고 할 수 있는 게임은 1982년에 발매되었던 쿼터 호스라는 게임입니다. 일렉트로 스포츠가 제작하고 술집 같은 곳에 가져다 놓았던 쿼터 호스는 버튼을 조작해 내가 이번에 돈을 걸 말을 선택하고 스타트 버튼을 누르면 미리 녹화한 경마 경기를 재생해 주는 형태의 게임이었는데요. 게임 진행과 영상 재생이 분리되어 있기 때문에 완전한 FMV라고는 볼 수 없습니다.
이런 식으로 영상을 감상하며 내가 선택한 말이 어떤 플레이를 하느냐를 쫄깃하게 볼 수 있다는 건 충분히 매력적인 부분이었지만 FMV 장르라고 볼 수 있는 형태를 가지고 등장한 최초의 게임은 아무래도 이 게임이라고 봐야 하지 않을까 싶어요.
그 게임은 바로 세가가 내놓은 1983년작 아스트론 벨트입니다. 종스크롤 슈팅 게임으로 우주를 비행하며 적들을 상대한다는 것 자체는 다른 슈팅 게임들과 그렇게 큰 차이를 보여주지 않는 부분이지만 앞에 펼쳐지는 배경을 모두 영상으로 처리해 현실감을 크게 높여주었던 게임이었어요.
적 기체가 터지는 효과 같은 부분들도 모두 영상으로 처리했기 때문에 몰입감이라는 부분에서는 생각보다 높은 매력을 느낄 수 있었지만 이미 끝이 정해져 있는 영상이 재생되는 개념이라 내 플레이와 영상이 연동이 되지 않는다는 점은 살짝 아쉬운 부분이었습니다. 이런 아스트론 벨트의 아쉬운 연출은 거의 비슷한 시기에 발매되었던 다른 게임이 바로 해결하는 모습을 보여주었어요.
그 게임은 바로 어드밴스드 마이크로컴퓨터 시스템이 제작해 1983년 6월에 발매했던 드래곤즈 레어입니다. FMV, 그리고 인터랙티브 무비라는 두 장르의 선조격이라고 볼 수 있는 게임으로 한 편의 애니메이션을 내가 직접 조작하며 즐길 수 있다는 점에서 엄청난 신선함을 보여주었어요.
영상을 보며 이야기를 따라가는 과정에서 특정 선택이 필요할 때 짧은 시간이 주어지고 내가 현재 장면에서 어떤 내용을 이어갈지 결정해야 한다는 원초적인 QTE 시스템도 갖추고 있었고 내 선택에 따라 다른 분기로 영상이 이어지기 때문에 이런 부분에서 큰 재미를 느낄 수 있었어요.
드래곤즈 레어의 성공으로 FMV 장르와 인터랙티브 무비라는 장르가 본격적으로 게임계에서 모습을 드러내기 시작했다고 할 수 있죠.
아스트론 벨트, 드래곤즈 레어와 함께 1983년에 발매된 또 하나의 FMV 게임, 환마대전입니다. 이쪽은 먼저 1967년 연재되었던 만화를 원작으로 한 동명의 영화가 상영되었을 때 출시된 게임으로 영화 홍보에 목적이 있었던 게임이라고 할 수 있어요.
아스트론 벨트처럼 배경에 영상이 재생되고 그 안에서 적들을 슈팅 게임의 형태로 물리쳐나간다는 단순한 구성을 가지고 있었기에 드래곤즈 레어보다는 FMV의 매력을 제대로 느끼기에는 부족한 게임이었지만 1983년에 두 게임과 함께 FMV 장르의 문을 열었다는 점은 충분한 의미를 가지고 있어요.
부족한 연출을 영상으로 메꿀 수 있다는 점에서 각광받았던 장르였지만 이후 게임기의 성능이 쭉쭉 올라가면서 굳이 따로 영상을 틀어주지 않아도 인게임 그래픽만으로 해결 가능한 경우가 많아졌고, 자연스럽게 FMV보다는 인터랙티브 무비로 장르를 선택하는 사례가 압도적으로 늘어나며 FMV 장르는 그대로 역사 속으로 사라지나 싶었지만 2020년대에 들어서며 실사를 사용한 게임들이 점점 늘어나고 있는 중입니다. 일종의 역주행이라고 볼 수도 있어요.
가상의 인물이 아닌 현실의 인물들로 게임 화면을 구성하고 상호작용을 통해 따라가볼 수 있다는 FMV의 가장 큰 장점을 활용해 특히 연애 시뮬레이션 장르에서 지속적으로 FMV 장르의 신작이 발매되고 있습니다. 스토브 인디에서도 꽤 많은 FMV 연애 시뮬레이션 게임들을 만날 수 있고요.
비주얼 노벨, 인터랙티브 무비, FMV, 이렇게 세 개의 장르는 서로 비슷한 모습을 가지고 있는 게임이기에 언뜻 구별이 힘들 수 있지만 FMV로 분류할 수 있는 확실한 기준은 실사 영상이 들어갔느냐라고 정할 수 있습니다. 1980년대에 반짝한 뒤 2020년대에 다시 주목을 받기 시작한 FMV 장르의 게임들을 플레이하며 한번 FMV의 매력을 느껴보는 건 어떨까요?
