Game Features

'Claire Obscure: The 33rd Expedition' offers three difficulty levels: Story/Expedition Member/Expert .

The difficulty can be freely changed at any time during the game , so it's okay to start off easy.

Combat is primarily turn-based .

But the addition of QTE elements that require you to press keys at the right time during an attack, and real-time reaction elements that require you to avoid enemy attacks at the right moment by gradient counting, parrying, dodging, and jumping, completes the fast-paced and well-organized battles that are unique to this game .

Thanks to this responsive combat system, players will experience intense, high-focus, and tense battles from the moment the battle begins until the very end, without being able to let their guard down for even a moment.

The first playthrough begins with the male character 'Gustav', but as the game progresses, you will be reunited with the 33 expedition teammates you had lost one by one, and the number of expedition members will gradually increase.

However, since only a maximum of three people can participate in a battle, players must personally select three party members to fight together in battle .

If a three-person party is completely wiped out during battle, the remaining expedition members can join the battle and cast Final Resistance, but if even the remaining expedition members lose the battle, the game is over.

You can increase your relationship level by talking to expedition members at the campsite, and as your level increases, you will unlock one additional skill exclusive to 'Gradient Attack'.

Glossary of Terms

Nebron

Nebron refers to a giant monster of unknown origin that exists throughout the continent.

Pictos

Pictos are equipment items that act as a sort of 'amulet' .

A character can equip up to 3 Pictos , and the functions of the equipped Pictos are automatically activated like a buff effect.

Lumina

If Pictos is an equipment item that is equipped like a 'talisman', then Lumina can be said to be an element that corresponds to the 'effect or ability' that the talisman exerts .

As explained before, equipping a specific pictos will automatically activate that pictos' luminous effect.

However , even if you don't have Pictos equipped, you can still activate its effect directly by spending Luminar Points .

Luminar points can be earned through various routes during expeditions, and as explained in the 'Curator' section above, once a curator joins the campsite, you can freely distribute the Luminar you have among your characters through the 'Expedition Resource Upgrade' function .

Tint

Tints are a type of potion item and there are three types in total .

Initially, all tints start out as small potions, but can be upgraded into more effective potions through the 'Tint Upgrade' feature provided by the Curator.

Esquier  

The Eskies are one of the most mysterious beings on the continent.

No one knows how long he lived or how much he knew about this continent.

This large, somewhat lazy, and peaceful being is quite friendly towards the explorers.

If you grant Eskie just one small(?) request, he will gladly carry the expedition team over obstacles and even swim across the open sea.

After reaching the island where Axon (a being much more powerful than Nebron) lives, you will also unlock the ability to travel directly to the continent via the expedition flag .

These Esquier abilities will also be gradually unlocked as the game progresses.

Playtime and combat difficulty

The play time of 'Claire Obscur: Expedition 33' is approximately 30 hours based on the main quest , and if you clear all the additional content and challenges, you can continue the journey for up to 60 hours .

The game is divided into two main chapters, the first half and the second half , and new developments occur as the chapters change .

Additionally, the 'Mael's Nightmare' part , which progresses from Mael's perspective, reveals pieces of anxiety and doubt hidden within Mael, further stimulating the player's curiosity about the secrets surrounding Mael.

The easiest difficulty among the three is 'Story' , which starts off easy enough for players who are not familiar with the reactive combat system to progress through the game without difficulty.

Especially in the latter half, enemies use various skills such as 'Berserk', 'Reversal', 'Heal', and 'Bewitchment', so it becomes increasingly difficult to win battles with just high attack power.

The distant continent across the sea was an unknown land to the expedition team, and the Nebron living there were so large and threatening.

After 67 years, the 33rd expedition finally sets foot on the continent.

From the coastline to the depths of the continent, and even to the areas closest to Paintless,

The corpses of previous expeditions were piled up here and there, and the expedition flags were left behind to indicate their presence.

When I first encountered this work, I was curious about the meaning of the term 'Claire Obscur'.

I looked it up,

Clair Obscur is said to be a French word meaning 'light' and 'darkness' .

Light and darkness.

It can mean the two sides of a coin, hope and despair,

It may mean that they are in contact with each other but can never be together.

I think the word 'Claire Obscur' is a keyword that runs through this entire work and is the core of the story.

During my time with the 'Claire Obscur 33 Expedition', there is one sentence that has been deeply engraved in my heart.

It's called 'Tomorrow Comes' .
