Playtime!

Scarlet Cross is a multi-ending visual novel.

There is a certain flow to the story, but your feelings for a certain character deepen(?) or you make a wrong choice.

You can see the character's special ending or bad ending.

I simply thought that dating simulations were a genre that people played because they liked handsome or pretty characters on a 2D screen.

This is better than I thought

Beyond just 'romance', I was impressed by the fact that each character had a living narrative.

The characters felt like "one entity" that developed relationships with the player, each with their own charming personality, rather than being mere consumable items for the player to choose from.

And you know what?

It's full dubbing. (Except for the main characters)

As someone who likes voice actors, this was good... (the lineup is also legendary)

Game Synopsis and Characters -

In the medieval times, where demons are rampant, the protagonist is leading an ordinary life as an apprentice exorcist (aka exorcist).

Then one day, the main character is attacked by a demon with a different appearance than usual demons.

The protagonist, who was thought to be dead, suddenly gains unexpected powers.

He joins the ace squad "0th Squadron" , which is made up of characters with their own stories.

It was an unexpected power, but it was also a curse, and it was not my fate to live with the curse inside me.

Spend extraordinary days with the 0th Squad members, slaying demons and searching for a way to lift the curse.

(There's a more detailed story after that, but it's a spoiler, so you'll have to play it yourself!)

Main heroine

Declan Houset "The one who struggles at the end of a dead end"

Declan is a cold-blooded man with a cool and realistic personality.

I was impressed by how he often maintained his composure and quickly solved problems in any dangerous situation.

But the main character has a warmer... gap moe than anyone else.

I am a true "chocolate, dessert" maniac.

Mandy "A tortured soul at a crossroads"

Mandy was a character that suited my taste quite well.

If you carefully read my first review, "Hwanse Chwiho Jeon Plus", you may have noticed that I'm a huge fan of hot-blooded and cheerful characters.

I thought Mandy was just a hot-blooded character, but as I watched, I found out that she had a painful past.. My heart was torn apart.

It was impressive how he treated the main character with a passionate affection that he didn't usually show, but as they became closer, he showed his true feelings and became more serious.

Contrary to his rough speech and behavior, he has a surprisingly great talent for cooking.

Elliot "He who dwells in timeless time"

Elliot was a character that could only be conquered by seeing both the main endings of "Decklen" and "Mandy".

As you can see from the illustration, it exudes a considerable sense of mystery.

What!! I was secretly hoping that there would be a shocking twist, but maybe I'm just not perceptive. Hmm... I think it was more disappointing than I thought because there was no dopamine that solved the mystery. Who knows? If there's anyone who can try to conquer it and figure out Elliot's hidden true meaning, please play it and let me know. ㅎㅎ

Characters that cannot be conquered as heroines

Colin

In every game, there's a bit of a tutorial or NPC that helps you get used to the game, right?

Like X-Riel from UnX-Tail

Like X-Tenara from X-Bear Watch

Anyway, our Colin too! He plays that kind of role.

Although it does not break the fourth wall, it allows the player to naturally blend in as the main character in the world of the game called Scarlet Cross.

I felt like I was being led very naturally. It's harder than you think to give that feeling.

But I was impressed by the kindness with which he helped me understand the world view so naturally.

Chester

The clown of the 0th unit that the main character and other characters belong to(..)

I'm sorry to Chester, so I'll change the word clown to licorice.

If Colin was a character who helped immerse the player into the world,

Chester just felt like a sidekick? A character for my "main character", not a character for the player.

(To be honest, he wasn't that impressive of a character)

And I, Kwak Du-pal (Strong Me.)

You can set the main character's name yourself.

I thought it was a great feature that helped add another level of immersion

Of course, that's not my real name.

The default name was "Camilla".

I wanted my main character to be strong, so I named him Seboi. Haha

Choice System -

An indispensable feature for pre-teens.

It's a selection feature.

Depending on your choices, you may gain favor with the character.

The ending branch may also change.

If you're unlucky, you might even see the bad ending.

Effect that increases Mandy's favorability by choosing a specific option (blue Mandy's unique sentence)

It was fun to save for each choice and see multiple endings!

I think this is the greatest advantage of being premature.

The convenience from a player's perspective is truly amazing.

It's organized in order. I didn't really notice the cutscenes while playing the game, but after seeing them all gathered together like this, I realized there really are a lot of them.
It's very full now, so I mosaiced it to prevent spoilers!

Other features -

From left to right, the tabs are Music, Movie, and Option.

1. Music > Songs you listen to while playing the game will be recorded.

2. Movie > Movie cut scenes seen during the game are recorded. (I think there are only two)

3. Option > This is a tab where you can adjust small functions (such as speed or volume) during the game.

This total score is my extremely subjective total score, 'Kim Se-min'.

Personally, as someone who likes dynamic games with high player participation, I like visual novels that follow a set story like reading a novel.

I guess it's still unfamiliar to me.

Even though there are different endings depending on the choices you make, the basic structure of the story doesn't change... I felt it was a shame that the only thing I could directly participate in was the choices.

But other than that

Character and world view, individuality, illustrations, convenience. I think it has everything a visual novel can have.
