Hello. Please give a brief introduction to Mojo Games and developer Oh Hyun-jin or the team.

-Hello! This is Oh Hyun-jin of Mojo Games, greeting you again with the new Flower Survivors following Flower Dungeon.

 

 

Does the name Mojo Games have any meaning or philosophy?

-It's a nickname I made in middle school, and I don't even remember why I named it Mojo;;;

 I think it's unique and I'm currently satisfied with it.

 

How is the team size and role distribution currently?

-I am a solo developer and actively use generative AI technology for development.

 I take the pixels, but the illustrations and music are mainly created with generative AI.

 It is made with the Unity game engine. 

 

Your previous work, 《Flower Dungeon》, received good reviews from indie users. Do you have any feedback or experiences that you remember most at that time?

-I received feedback regarding combat, and the reason I developed this vampire-like genre is because I received feedback that the combat in my previous works was too passive and not fun. I wanted to develop more active and fun combat, so I decided to try a new genre. 

 

How did you reflect the lessons learned or improvements from developing 《Flower Dungeon》 in this work?

-After receiving feedback such as too long playtime and bland combat, I tried to solve this

 Gorgeous and easy to play with playtime that you can enjoy without burden and easy controls

 I wanted to implement an intense battle.

 

I heard that 《Flower Survivors》 shares the same worldview as the previous work. What parts are connected?

-I hope you think of it as playing the previous Flower Dungeon again in a vampire-like style.

 It's the same time period.

 

Please introduce the basic game concept and core gameplay of the new 《Flower Survivors》.

-Gorgeous pixel art style combat that is simple and easy to enjoy with just WASD and control keys, and

 I want to implement various growth options.

 

What kind of fun do you want to convey through the genre characteristics of ‘Vampire-like RPG’?

-Fast growth and a casual game!

 

Compared to the previous work, what is the biggest difference in 《Flower Survivors》?

-It's an active battle. Dodge the endlessly pouring enemies and bullets like crazy

 You can spam each hero's unique skills.

 

What part of the battle system in this work did you focus on developing the most?

-I put a lot of thought into the effects and effects of the three unique skills given to each hero.

 

What was the intention behind introducing the newly added ‘moving illustrations’ and ‘simple animations’ in this work?

-I tried using the Grok image video creation function. The goal was to make the heroes, NPCs, and companions more vivid.

 

How are the growth systems and options that players can experience structured?

-There are unique skills for each hero through level up, passive enhancement, equipment that can be obtained during the game, and faith selection.

 In the release version, we are also implementing a function that allows you to raise your reputation level and receive starting stat bonuses.

 

The dot sensitivity and background art of 《Flower Dungeon》 were impressive. How did you develop it in this work?

-I wanted to use the dot experience I gained from developing the previous work to work in more detail.

 I think the quality has improved a bit, and I want to see users' reactions and feedback haha

 

If you could briefly introduce the worldview and story of 《Flower Survivors》?

-It's the same as the previous work. The baron has problems in his territory (Steel Women's Troupe, Archnoids, Fanatics, etc...)

 The story is that he hired mercenaries (all women?!) to solve the problem.

 The enemies and heroes from the previous work appear the same.

 

What kind of personality and role do the main characters have?

-Each hero has 3 skills, 3 passives, unique images, and cutscenes.

 It includes everything from basic illustrations to victory cutscenes, defeat cutscenes, and part destruction illustrations.

 

If there is anything you paid special attention to in expanding the worldview or setting, please tell us.

-We focused on combat rather than storytelling, so there are no major changes or additions to the setting. haha

 

Please introduce the engine and technical features used for development.

-We used the Unity engine. I don't think I used any new engine features.

 

What was the most difficult part of this development process?

-I think the most difficult thing was creating skills with ranges and effects that were not in the previous works.

 I am always thinking about how to implement the enemies' bullets that need to be avoided so that the difficulty is appropriate.

 

Do you have any plans to add DLC or expansion content in the future?

-We have plans for new hero DLC and free updates

 We plan to add stages.

 

Are there any plans to include adult content or content with age restrictions?

-This work is also rated for ages 15 and up, and there are no plans for adult content.

 

What kind of feedback are you most looking forward to through this demo release?

-I want to know if the difficulty is appropriate and if the active combat is fun.

I wonder if a similar genre game will come out besides this?

I'm talking about live service subculture games.

It's a game that could have survived if it had a slightly better story and user-friendly operation, but it was ruined by the director

Users hate the situation where they have to wait for a substitute for 2-3 years or more.

Slay the Spire 2 is not a 'Deok' and not a live service, so pass.

Calling that 'Deok' would only be for people who like Western-style drawings...

장르가 유니크해서 대체재가 없다는건 이 게임이 재밌을때 적용가능한 말임 이거는 그냥 게임 외적으로나 내적으로나 다 불쾌해서 다음주에 당장 아이온2랑 스세 나오는데  아마   다 갈아탈거임 일단 재밌는게 중요하지 아이온2랑 스세가 혹시나 통수쳐도 이거보다 심하진 않을듯

Have you ever liked an older adult when you were in school?

Whether it was a school teacher or a private tutor, you may have been drawn to their mature charm, which was different from the children around you.

Looking back, as someone who went to an all-boys middle and high school, I remember one friend who secretly liked a pretty female teacher at school.

In that sense, this game is about the story of a female student who falls in love with a teacher who treats her well..

I played this game with anticipation because it is based on the theme of 'teacher-student' romance, which has become legally dangerous in many ways and has almost disappeared.

How did this game pass the review?

To briefly explain the synopsis of the game,

it depicts the story of a teacher who gave up his dream of becoming a cartoonist due to his family's opposition and a female student who is about to give up her dream of going to art school due to her family's opposition..

In fact, as I mentioned in the introduction, I wonder if it's okay to deal with the romance between a teacher and a student in this day and age.

So, when I saw the developer's announcement,

that's what it said.

Although they avoided the review through various phrases and settings, both the description in the work and the developer's position suggest that

some people may feel uncomfortable with the fact that the female lead is a minor..

Anyway, based on the fact that it is a creative work, and since there were not many teacher-student romance stories before,

it was refreshing just to see the episodes that could happen because they are a teacher and a student.

For example, going to take instant photos together after school, avoiding the eyes of other students, or having everyday conversations as if they were student counseling, or

sitting next to the teacher on the school trip, pretending there are no seats left, etc.I liked that it felt like I was realizing situations that I had only imagined.

Including some of the more stimulating episodes that I haven't mentioned here, I could definitely feel what part they were aiming for.

Other than that, the CG quality was excellent, making it fun to watch.

The drawing was well done, and the use of lighting effects made it more three-dimensional and emotional, which was great.

But is this the right story?

*From here on, there will be direct spoilers about the story, so if you haven't played it yet, I recommend going back.

The question I had while playing the beginning of this game was

'How will they convince users of the forbidden love between a teacher and a student?'.

And after playing to the end,

I can answer that they 'failed to convince'..

This game seems to be saying that the reason why the two fell in love was because their backgrounds were so miserable that they had no choice but to rely on each other..

For example, in the case of the female student, it turns out that her parents not only opposed her going to art school but also committed domestic violence, so she needed a place to find peace of mind,

and in the case of the main character, he had dated a teacher when he was a student and it ended badly, so he kept ignoring the female student's feelings.

The problem is that these settings are too provocative and suddenly appear without any foreshadowing, like 'the truth is ~', which raises more questions and makes it impossible to empathize.

In particular, it's a bit much that the main character also dated a teacher when he was a student, so he says he understands your feelings...

Continuing on to the climax and ending, I don't think I should mention everything here, so I can't explain it in detail, but

the situation in which the conflict arises is ambiguous, and the ending, regardless of the situation, raises questions such as 'Is this right...?' and 'Is this possible...?', making it difficult to understand.

Other than that, the backgrounds used in the game include assets, pictures with picture filters or blurring applied, and newly drawn ones, but

since the asset backgrounds are made in Japan, the details were a bit disappointing, such as streets with Japanese signs even though the actual background is Korea.

Overall review

"Too much MSG, so all you can taste is MSG"

What I expected while playing the existing demo version or the beginning of the game was

a story where the two characters empathize with each other's situations, achieve their dreams, and fall in love,

but in reality, it was disappointing because it was a story about a teacher and a student who fell in love and secretly dated each other, avoiding the eyes of others.

I think the story went a bit off the rails because they tried to develop the story with too many provocative materials and episodes.

(BIC 2023 리로더:테스트_서브젝트 부스)


■시작하며

리로더:테스트_서브젝트는 2022년에 BIC에서 처음 알게 되었는데요. 당시에 현장에서 체험했었는데 끝까지 클리어 해보고 싶었으나 같은 곳에서 너무 반복해서 죽기도 했고 앞에 사람이 너무 오래 붙잡고 있었던 게 기억나서 빠르게 뒷사람한테 넘겨줬었죠.

타 플랫폼에서 무료로 하거나 1,100원으로 구매하여 라이브러리 등록해서 플레이 할 수도 있었는데 집에 오자마자 후원 느낌으로 1,100원으로 구매해서 끝까지 플레이 했던 기억이 나네요.

얼마전에 스토브에도 출시되어 이번에 다시 플레이 해보았는데 한지가 너무 오래되어서 익숙해지는데 꽤 시간이 필요 했습니다.



■ 배경 및 플레이 방식


주인공은 어떠한 무장조직의 아지트에 붙잡혀 있었습니다.



자신을 스파이라고 소개한 정체불명의 여자가 조직의 보스로 추정되는 녀석을 제압해버리죠.





풀어주는 것 외의 도움은 주기 어렵다고 말합니다. 주어진 것은 권총과 탄창 몇개뿐..





전설적인 요원의 기술과 경험을  즉시 불러올 수 있는 전투 보조 도구가 있다며 주인공에게 주입해버립니다.



그러나 에러가 나버리고..



사격 실력은 확실히 항상되었지만 총을 다루는 방법은 모두 잊어버린 상태.. 탄창을 손에 들고 장전하는 등 일련의 과정을 모두 수동으로 해야하는 상황입니다.



정밀 조준 상태로 계속 사격하면 집중력이 많이 떨어져서 정확도가 떨어집니다.



탄창에 남은 총알의 개수도 파악하면서 플레이 해야하죠.



주인공은  과연 탈출할 수 있을까요



(끝까지 플레이 했기 때문에 스포일러를 포함하고 있습니다.)



■ 장점


1. 일반적인  총 게임에서는 볼 수 없는 독특한 방식

일반적인 총 게임에서는 R키 하나만 누르면 자동으로 총알이 재장전되죠.

리로더:테스트_서브젝트에서는 탄창을 벨트에서 꺼내 손에 쥐고 권총에 넣고 장전 후 슬라이드를 당겼다가 전진하고 빈 탄창을 권총에서 빼서 손에 쥐고 버리거나 벨트에 넣고 일련의 과정을 모두 수동으로 해야합니다.  참 막막해보이죠. 이게 처음에는 이걸 할 수 있을까 싶지만 조금만 시행착오를 겪으면 생각보다 빨리 익숙해져요. 그리고 재밌습니다.


2. 사격할 때 발생할 수 있는 상황에 대한 디테일

앞서 언급한대로 정밀 사격으로 적의 머리를 계속 노려 쏘다보면 집중력이 저하되어 명중률이 떨어지고 탄창에 남은 총알의 개수도 계산해야하죠. 

적이 쓰던 탄창을 주웠을때도  적이 가지고 있을 때 얼마나 쐈었는지에 따라 남아 있는 총알이 다릅니다. 하지만 이뿐만이 아닙니다.


총을 연달아 쏘다보면 일정확률로 탄이 걸려버립니다. 적과 대치중에 걸려버리면 참 난감하죠. 얼른  슬라이드를 당기고 전진하여 빼내야 합니다.



그리고 탄창을 갈지 못했는데 적이 다가온다 할때는 근접해서 칼빵을 꽂을 수 있는데요.



무조건 이길 수 있는게 아니라 순수하게 확률 싸움입니다. 읔..



3. 초보자 배려 모드


리로더가 너무 어려워서 도저히 플레이가 불가능하다 싶을 때는 재장전을 자동으로 해주는 블렛 카운터 모드가 있습니다. 

하지만 리로더:테스트_서브젝트 본연의 재미는 느낄 수 없습니다.



■ 단점

초기에는 버그가 꽤 많았는데 현재는 버그를 거의 찾을 수 없어서 개인적으로 단점은 없습니다. 굳이 꼽자면 짧은 분량인데 애초에 제목처럼 데모 격의 게임이라(스토브에서는 1,100원이지만) 그걸 감안해야죠.



■ 마치며



BIC 2022에 이어 2023에도 참가해주셨던 개발자님.

진짜 본편인 리로더_알파 초기버전도 같이 가지고 오셨었죠. (첫 사진 오른쪽 노트북의 게임) 

기억이 가물가물하지만 부분 3D도 구현하고 좀 더 액션감이 있던 게임이었죠.

1인 개발이시라 개발 진척이 뎌디긴 하지만 간절히 기다리고 있답니다. 현기증 나니까 얼른 출시를..

정말 총기를 다룸에 있어서의 방법론을 극한까지 추구한 게임이죠 ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

총기 잼도 걸리는 걸 보고.... 아, 다른 게임들이 얼마나 '총기 편의성'에 얼마나 신경 썼는지도 느끼면서도,

다른 게임들이 얼마나 대충 총기를 그려내는지도 동시에 느낀 신박한 게임이었습니다 ㅎㅎㅎ

좀더 현실?적으로 만들어진 게임인가보네요.

이전에 스토브 인디에서 팔아서 '나중에 사서 해봐야지'하고 찜목록에 넣어뒀었는데 개발사 사정으로 판매중지 되서 아쉽더라고요.(스팀은 할인까지해서 판매중인데)
